Help us track the global transition to clean power

The world urgently needs to transition from fossil power generation to a clean power system dominated by renewables. Ember’s vision is to become the go-to place for open data on the electricity transition and to turn that data into action by presenting analysis and insights in a way which can influence policy.

Ember is compiling national power-sector targets to enable a global clean power tracker showing where countries are today, what they are on track for based on existing targets, and where they need to be for clean power by 2035/2040. This will bring much-needed transparency and consistency across countries, and ultimately will help to build momentum and strengthen targets in line with overarching climate goals.

We’re looking for a motivated analyst who understands climate policy and targets to take a major role in developing this tool. We seek someone who shares our vision of a 100% clean electricity system, who wants to use their analytical skills to make a positive impact. You must have a good understanding of the power sector, particularly in Asia, and an understanding of climate policy. You must have good quantitative skills, and be able to work quickly yet systematically to compile information across large numbers of countries.

You will work closely with a senior analyst within Ember’s data team, and report to a senior member of the Data Team. You will be supported by the wider team of electricity experts, as well as the communications team and data visualisation specialists. There will be opportunity to contribute to other data-driven tools and analysis to drive policy change in the region.

This is an exciting time to join Ember, and a great opportunity to create a high-profile and impactful tool. This is a remote role #LI-Remote

  • Research, compile and update power sector targets and policies
  • Help define a methodology for translating power-sector targets into comparable metrics
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of the global clean power tracker
  • Conduct analysis at country and regional level and contribute to reports, data stories and other outputs
  • Develop strategies to create high-level impact with via data-driven analysis
  • Contribute to other projects and outputs from Ember’s Data Team
