The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer with extensive experience in Data Engineering to join our growing business. You’ll be working alongside highly technical and motivated teams and report to the Data Engineering Tech Lead. You would be expected to contribute to the growth of the data-related software offerings within the organisation. Working with a variety of internal teams, you’ll have the freedom to analyse all aspects of our business in order to help various teams ensure we support our ever-growing user base. Responsibilities

  • Code mainly in SQL (for Snowflake), Python, LookML and JavaScript. However, we are constantly evolving and you should be ready to embrace new challenges
  • Identify the data needs of the business, understand the requirements for analysis, and build scalable, efficient data pipelines to enable data-driven decisions
  • Own and develop data pipelines and models for the teams across the business
  • Enable the product teams to utilise statistical and econometric models on large datasets
  • Take ownership of collecting new data and refine our existing data sets
  • Work on cutting edge data-related software engineering areas like embedded analytics or machine learning
  • Build strong relationships with our product and engineering teams to manage our data universally across the business
  • Adopt best practices for reporting and analysis, and insist upon the highest standards at all times

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience delivering software for analytical data solutions with big business impact
  • Very good command of SQL. Experience with LookML, or with ORMs like Django is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of Python, JavaScript or other high level programming languages and a desire to learn new ones
  • Experience developing cloud-based software solutions
  • Experience orchestrating continuous integration setups (e.g. with Jenkins), working with version control (e.g. Git), and Agile methodologies (e.g. Scrum)
  • Comfortable developing and mentoring junior members of the team towards a successful career
  • Previous experience of building ETL/ELT pipelines
  • Skilled in data lake and data warehouse design, maintenance and governance
  • Experienced on data normalization/denormalization
  • Previous experience with Looker and Snowflake is a plus
  • You are an organized person who works well under pressure and with little direction
  • Ability to communicate the value of using data to form decisions and predictive modelling
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to articulate concepts in plain English
  • BSc or equivalent experience in computer science, engineering, computational physics, mathematics or another field with strong computational curriculum. MSc/PhD in similar subjects desirable
