We are currently seeking a Data Science Engineer to develop advanced Li-ion battery & battery cell analytical tools to perform data management, data mining and trend analysis, statistical analysis, and support data driven model development and continuous improvement. This position requires a creative and analytical mindset with a strong understanding of data architectures, including modern approaches to cloud data storage, pattern recognition, and machine learning. The successful candidate should also have a solid understanding of the physical sciences in lithium-ion batteries.

This position will be expected to possess the ability to strive for perfection within a fast-paced environment. Junior level candidates with solid data science background, and senior level candidates with broader battery data analysis experience and additional skill sets are both encouraged to apply.

Role

  • Develop data analytical tools to integrate battery data collected from Lucid vehicles into the Lucid cloud, and provide a variety of data trend reviews on vehicle/pack/cell data
  • Work with Cell Engineering team to develop data analytical tools to correlate cell/pack test data to vehicle cloud data
  • Work with Battery Management System team to support development of cutting-edge algorithms and analytics and develop physics-based signals of battery degradation or other conditions of interest
  • Work with Battery Management System and Cell teams to develop on-line methods of estimating battery health based on available physical data from the vehicle
  • Develop goals for identifying interesting patterns including aging behavior, drive habits, data anomalies, and other pattern recognition concepts by machine learning or any other algorithms for further related applications
  • Develop various data processing, viewing, managing, and analytical tools to support cell/pack engineering development in cross-functional teams
  • Review academic literature to identify and implement algorithms based on emerging research
  • Support advanced deep learning models and tools for data analysis and optimization
  • Deliver documents related to data analytics algorithm development
  • Work with intellectual property team to patent your inventions
  • Collaborate with battery team to determine and achieve battery performance and lifetime targets

Qualifications

  • Fundamental knowledge of lithium-ion cell electrochemistries and mechanisms
  • 3+ years of work experience in data science, preferable in energy storage and EV fields
  • 3+ years experience with Python, R, AWS, and database design and implementation
  • Demonstrated experience developing and launching analytic platforms based on data science
  • MS or PhD required in Chemistry, Engineering, Physics with supporting degree of Computer Science, Mathematics, or Data Science related Engineering preferred
  • Familiar with battery testing equipment and test protocol
  • Experience in writing efficient code to process and analyze large data sets
  • High level of mathematical and advanced data process and analysis capabilities
  • Excellent communication skills and team-oriented attitude
  • Comfortable with initiating and taking ownership of projects

Preferred

  • Skilled in code developing tools such as Python, R or Matlab
  • Strong understanding of algorithm design, optimization, and verification
  • Good mathematical knowledge and experience in statistical analysis, optimization, machine learning, and deep learning tools
  • Candidates with successful multidisciplinary work record or education background

Education

  • MS or PhD degree in EE, ME, CS, Math, Physics, Chemistry, Materials
