Internship Robotics: Integrating new sensors to improve localization

Job Description

At Lely, we are constantly working on improving and innovating our existing robots. Would you like to experience this for yourself and get hands-on with optimizing the Juno? Then read on!

Practical Information:

• This internship can be either in the form of a work placement or a graduation project.
• You are available immediately for a period of 3-6 months, working 40 hours per week.
• You speak English and/or Dutch.

The Juno is an AGV robot used to push feed towards cows. Currently, the Juno uses metal strips in combination with induction sensors to perform line-following tasks. This project is about eliminating the need for metal strips for line following by adding one or more beacons. The beacons are wireless distance sensors that can be used to localize the robot.

To achieve this, various conceptual solutions will need to be studied and compared. Ultimately, one solution will be chosen to develop into a working prototype on a real robot! And that's where you come in! In addition, you will be involved in:

• Building and preparing the necessary hardware;
• Collecting and analyzing data;
• Developing, simulating and testing algorithms.

Qualifications

• You are studying Mechatronics, Robotics (HBO/WO) or something similar.
• You are familiar with SLAM and/or Localization.
• Algorithm Development is not unfamiliar to you!
• You have experience with ROS and Python.
• Experience with C++ is a plus.
