Be part of the Portuguese landing team

In 2022, we arrived in Europe with our first technology office outside Brazil. Portugal was the country chosen to start this journey. Our landing team is located in Lisbon and will interface directly with our Brazilian team. We want to be close to the European technology ecosystem and spread our innovation DNA in the new country. This is just the beginning. We are building a global playbook and expect to expand to other countries right after Portugal.

Location

Our positions are based in our brand new subsidiary in Lisbon. Due to Covid-19, we have adopted the "remote-first" model, which means our teams are mainly working from home. We have a physical office in Lisbon, and our team can use it whenever required. We have a global mobility team working to provide the best and safe experience for all employees and partners.

About the role:

Every Data Scientist at QuintoAndar

In our Data Science team, you'll have the chance to work as a part of our product squads delivering features that enrich our product and a first-class experience that we are known for. You'll work alongside brilliant minds, with different skills: Product Managers, Designers, UX Writers, Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers, Software Engineers, etc. Be prepared for the job of your life - hard challenges, high expectations, intelligent life at work, meaningful conversations, outstanding productivity.

You will be responsible for technically mentoring other data scientists, as well as developing and reviewing deliverables in different data science phases: data extraction, exploratory data analysis, modeling (feature engineering), experimentation and release. We expect a strong understanding of industry-level search and ranking and the ability to translate modern improvements into tangible results, provoking changes in the current stack as technologies evolve.

Responsibilities:

• Model the problem, perform feature transformation/selection, train and evaluate models;
• Define models deployments and/or online experiments with product managers;
• Study and define models targets with feedback from leadership;
• Proficiency in Python or another major programming language;
• Expert knowledge of machine learning concepts: regression and classification, clustering, neural networks, feature selection, cross-validation, curse of dimensionality, bias-variance tradeoff, model explainability, etc.;
• Building and helping to create documentation;
• Design and execute experiments, collect and analyze data to characterize our product;
• Analyze a wide variety of data: structured and unstructured, observational and experimental in order to improve our current models or create new ones; and
• Participate actively in discussions and decisions regarding the whole Data Science chapter (Guilds, Design Reviews, Demos, etc.);

Requirements

What we are looking for:

• Experience with technical advice for other data scientists (technical leadership);
• Experience with ranking (and/or classification) models applied to search engines;
• Experience with user, query and documents in different representations (e.g., embeddings, historical signals, real-time signals); and
• Strong knowledge of probability and statistics, including experimental design, bayesian modeling, optimization and causal inference for A/B experiments analysis.
  

You'll stand out if you

• Have a MSc/PhD in machine learning, data science, information retrieval, ranking systems, recommender systems, natural language processing or other relevant fields;
• Have experience in real retrieval and ranking systems at scale;
• Have experience in the Real Estate market;
• Have experience working at fast-growing startups;
• Are up-to-date with cloud solutions (preferably AWS); or
• Have previously knowledge working with one or more of the following:
  1. Search engines (e.g. ElasticSearch, Solr, Lucene);
  2. LTR (learn-to-rank) modeling and algorithms.
