Position

The Data Architect will help create and review data designs, data models, and selecting frameworks to help design, develop, and launch reliable data lakes and large datasets to fuse multiple data types including geography, telemetry, text, image, and video. The ideal candidate should have a strong systematic mindset and the ability to communicate clearly in multiple technical contexts. Candidates should be passionate about finding insights in large datasets while maintaining attention to database architecture, data reliability, efficiency, and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures data lineage is consistent across applications and data sources while also developing and communicating strategies and common approaches for data acquisition, data access, and data archiving.
  • Creates standards for how data will be stored, consumed, integrated, and managed by different data entities and technology systems.
  • Selects frameworks, develops, and communicates common approaches, and develops roadmaps.
  • Develops and implements models of data that enable the implementation of intended business architecture, creates diagrams showing key data entities, and creates an inventory of the data needed to implement the architecture vision.
  • Ensures data design is consistent with architecture and that data flow is consistent, traceable, and meets project requirements.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and update leadership and clients on on-going challenges and platform initiatives.
  • Highly collaborative and self-motivated, taking ownership of deliverables and responsibilities.
  • Perform troubleshooting and problem resolution when needed.
  • Create and maintain platform architecture and technical documentation.
  • Maintain consistency in system data extraction methodologies and develop best practices for system scope, design, build, test and delivery.
  • Develops and maintains a thorough knowledge of business processes and the data they create and require. Acts as a technical resource for application and clients.
  • Designs new systems and enhancements to accurately address client requirements including development of functional specifications and technical specifications as required.
  • Programs or configures applications according to design specifications and project requirements; establishes test plans and data; validates and verifies functions in the program; and prepares necessary forms and documentation for implementation.
  • Provides expertise and leadership in all phases of the SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) such as project scoping, requirements gathering, analysis, design, construction, testing, quality assurance, migration, and maintenance.
  • Administers, maintains, develops, and implements policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the database systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in any quantitative discipline such as Engineering, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Data Governance, Data Management, Statistics or Mathematics. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of the SDLC, testing, and version control
  • 5+ years of Enterprise Data Architecture, data platforms, data strategy consulting or equivalent data management experience.
  • 5+ years developing data management systems including logical and physical data modeling, relational database design, and design and development of system-wide metadata.
  • 5+ years of experience with programming languages, including Python, C#, Java, or equivalent.
  • Solid background developing solutions for high volume, low latency applications and can operate in a fast paced, highly collaborative environment.
  • Experience working with structured, unstructured and/or semi-structured data and conducting analysis.
  • Experience with both relational and distributed database design and management in cloud-based environments.
  • Experience with designing and executing machine learning models and applications.
  • Ability to quickly learn new skillsets to solve challenging problems.
  • An ability to adapt and work under large amounts of uncertainty.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and multi-tasking skills with ability to complete work within assigned timelines under minimal supervision.
  • Experience in Technical Architecture and Technical delivery using Agile Methodologies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to express complex business concepts in non-technical terms.
  • Ability to travel for up to 20% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with distributed programming languages such as Spark, Scala, etc.
  • Experience with data orchestration tools such as Airflow.
  • Experience with data engineering and data science tools such as Databricks, ElasticSearch, Apache NiFi, StreamSets, etc.
  • Experience with business intelligence tools such as Tableau or Qlik.
  • Experience with data lakes, data warehouses, and/or data lake houses.
  • Experience with cloud services such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
  • Experience with enterprise DataOps, DevSecOps and MLOps processes to operationalize and monitor data science models.
  • Experience with Agile development.
  • Experience with CI/CD, including Git, Jenkins, and Docker.
