At Govini, the Director of Analytics & Machine Learning is responsible for managing the data science discipline and team, including AI/ML development and maintenance, data quality, and KPI design and development. You will collaborate with Product, Sales, and Engineering in a cross-functional functional capacity to deliver high-quality, decision-grade data and analytics to our National Security customers.  You thrive under pressure and are eager to solve new challenges.  You are passionate about recruiting and developing top data science talent.  You are a technology and data nerd who strives to always deliver the best product to our customers.   You will push the boundaries of AI/ML possibilities and always look for new ways to leverage models to drive new insights and customer value.  You don’t hesitate to identify problems and take the lead in finding the answers.  You are a self-starter who leads by example.
This is a full-time team member position, working in our Pittsburgh, PA office.

Scope of Responsibilities

  • Manage the teams of data scientists, data analysts, and machine learning engineers to execute product  initiatives, including data source analysis, quality control, AI/ML model implementation, and indicator (KPI) development
  • Understand our data assets on a detailed  level and train others; you are the data subject matter expert
  • Constantly seek out new tools to deliver scope faster with higher quality
  • Become an expert in the National Security domain, and speak from a position of authority to internal and external customers as it pertains to leveraging Govini data and analytics
  • Hire the best talent and continuously train, coach, and mentor your team members to grow and perform at their highest level
  • In collaboration with the Product and Engineering departments, define the AI/ML roadmap 
  • Drive continuous process improvements to enhance the overall quality and throughput of data pipelines and resulting analytics; identify and implement best practices across your core teams
  • Constantly innovate and never settle for the status quo

  • Candidate must be a US citizen.

  • Required Skills
  • Master's degree in Statistics, Computer Science or a related technical field
  • Minimum 8 years of direct, hands-on data science work including model development, statistical analysis, indicator development, and related programming languages such as Python and R
  • Minimum 5 years of people management, specifically running data science, software/data engineering, or other technical teams
  • SQL mastery
  • Experience developing and deploying business intelligence (BI) tools and insights  to both internal and external customers
  • Understanding and appreciation of the product management discipline; ideally you have worked within a product organization in your past experience
  • Strong communication skills, across all levels of the organization
  • Experience with developing and maintaining Data Science solutions in AWS environments
  • A burning desire to work in a challenging, fast-paced environment and grow professionally

  • Desired Skills
  • Experience and interest in National Security
  • Experience with common Big Data technologies (Hadoop, Spark, or other) for processing large data sets
  • Experience working in a startup or other entrepreneurial environment
