Job Description
We are seeking a Director of Database Management and Data Integration.
This is a pivotal role in the technology division in which lead and provide strategic direction for a technical team of circa 60 people responsible for the database platform and technologies used to support the internal and client products we deliver in the market.
The successful candidate will need strong experience in delivering database services at enterprise-scale, with proven expertise in traditional and cloud-based technologies, in addition to having worked at a strategic level. You will be required to articulate and have technical discussions about the UK&I database estate.
Strong business acumen, strategic thinking, and an operational mindset are critical attributes for the role, along with the ability to build strong interpersonal relationships with peers, leaders, and executive management within and outside the organisation.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Develop and manage standardised and highly efficient IT database systems, ensuring reliability and scalability of the capabilities in a dynamic environment.
- Build and maintain management information and operational reporting to ensure our database estate operates within policy and technical standards, along with ensuring appropriate governance and oversight to the performance of the function.
- Modernise legacy systems through next generation services and capabilities leveraging cloud-based technologies where appropriate.
- Provide strong leadership with a focus on attracting, motivating, and developing best-in-class talent.
- Co-create and drive technology strategy and vision with an emphasis on delivering transformational change using an agile organisational mindset.
- Manage effective life cycle management to drive system and technology consolidation and keep the footprint manageable and cost-effective.
- Drive continual operational improvements with relentless focus on automating processes and workloads to streamline operations and reducing cost.
- Remain market-aware of new technologies and proactively assess their potential to become new capabilities for the organisation.
Qualifications
Experience
- Extensive experience of enterprise-scale database technologies, such as Microsoft SQL, MySQL, Oracle, MongoDB, Cloudera and Aurora.
- Understanding of database replication and file transfer technologies, such as QLIK Replicate and Axway Secure Transport Services.
- Knowledge in the use and benefits of the leading database systems monitoring tools.
- Proven track record in driving orchestration and automation across database solutions at scale.
- Experience leading large enterprise teams/groups of 50+ professionals and managing operations in a large-scale, distributed, consumer-facing organisation.
- Demonstrable executive leadership through periods of organisational change, and successfully managed businesses through dramatic growth, transformation, and development.
- Experience managing budgets (£30M+), strategic business-planning, and chargeback models.
Skills
- Strong business acumen, including industry, domain-specific knowledge of the enterprise and its business units.
- Comfortable managing complex database systems with 24 x 7 availability and support.
- Strong written communication and executive presentation skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner.
- Deep understanding of current and emerging database technologies and practices, and how other enterprises are utilising them.
- Knowledgeable in how to apply database capabilities to achieve regulatory or statutory compliance requirements.
- Strong third-party management skills, working closely with sourcing and vendor manage
