The Riverside Research Engineering and Support Solutions (ESS) Division conducts Research and Development (R&D) of cyber-physical attacks against embedded systems. The RF Research Engineer will perform theoretical and hands-on work to study electromagnetic emissions from microelectronic devices. They will use RF measurement equipment, analog and digital signal processing techniques, and custom analysis software to test embedded systems in a laboratory environment. This position is located at WPAFB, OH with travel expected two to four times a year.

Job Responsibilities

  • Configures and operates RF test equipment to capture emissions from microelectronic devices
  • Implements signal filtering and amplification for optimal signal collection
  • Develops custom digital signal processing techniques in software
  • Studies cyber-physical threats to embedded systems published in scientific journals and presented at conferences
  • Documents findings in technical reports and presentations
  • Collaborates with hardware security researchers
  • Coordinates with laboratory manager to acquire RF components and instrumentation
  • Other duties as required

Required Qualifications

  • Active DoD Top Secret (TS) or equivalent US Government security clearance
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in applied signal processing or RF testing
  • Strong understanding of signal processing theory
  • Software programming experience using either Python, C, or equivalent language
  • Excellent organizational, engineering, and communications skills
  • Able to work individually and as a member of a team
  • Willing to work in a secure US Government facility
  • Interest in solving open-ended problems

Desired Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience with embedded hardware (VHDL, Verilog) or software (C, Assembly)
  • Statistical signal processing experience or course work
  • Experience using RF design or simulation software
