Data Scientist for the HR Analytics team you will partner with HR and business leaders and analytics teams across Amazon to deliver products and research targeted at providing leaders specific, actionable insights. You will work with new AWS technologies as an early adopter. You will work with the team and customers to iterate on product design and post launch adoption. The right candidate for this role will be passionate about using data to solve problems.
As a member of the AWS People Analytics Team you will be part of an integrated, cross functional, diverse team of peers that work together to support a variety of programs. Through your work you will learn about and participate in the Organizational Health, Talent Development, Talent Management, Leadership Development, and Diversity programs within Amazon. You will partner with the subject matter experts on the team to work through complex problems and build solutions as well as across Amazon HR in other businesses to create unified scalable reporting solutions at an enterprise-wide level.



In this role you will:


· Own analytics support and operational dashboards for the AWS HR.
· Engage with leadership to support emerging reporting needs and build a roadmap for automation of repeated requests.
· Perform deep dive analysis to test hypotheses and guide actions
· Understand high-level business objectives and continually align work with those objectives to meet needs of business.
· Partner with central HR teams to scale our ongoing work across Amazon.com
· Learn and understand a broad range of Amazon’s data resources and know when, how, and which to use and which not to use
· Adopt best practices in reporting and analysis: data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation.
· Analyze and solve problems at their root, stepping back to understand the broader context.

Basic Qualifications


· Bachelor’s degree or higher in an applicable major (CS, IO psych, any research methods heavy science/social science degree)
· 5+ years working in a SQL environment, advanced SQL skills including performance tuning, scheduled jobs/refresh automation and creating new data structures
· 5+ years of experience designing and developing business facing analytics, dashboards, and data visualizations in a/multiple BI platform(s) such as Tableau, MicroStrategy, OBIEE or comparable tool
· Good skills with programming languages, such as Java or C/C++
· Experience using Python and/or R

Preferred Qualifications

· 8+ years of industry experience in predictive modeling and analysis, predictive software development
· Experience handling terabyte size datasets
· Experience working with distributed systems and grid computing
· Publications or presentation in recognized Machine Learning and Data Mining journals/conferences
· Master’s degree or higher in an applicable major (CS, IO psych, any research methods heavy science/social science degree)
· Owned the design and deployment of data visualizations that drive measurable impact
· Communication and data presentation skills, experience analyzing data and communicating the results to business leaders
· Experience testing causal arguments against historical data sets.
· Driven and results oriented, comfortable working directly with senior leaders, and strong quantitative analytical abilities.
· Experience using formal research methods (Quant/Qual) to evaluate hypothesis and develop models.
· Advanced knowledge of database & data set design.
· Knowledge of AWS technologies, including large-scale data warehousing and analytics projects such as Redshift, S3, EC2, Data-pipeline or other big data technologies
· Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role
· Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role
