About Mixpanel

Mixpanel is a leading product analytics software company, currently helping the world answer 81 million product questions every year. Our pioneering event-based tracking solution gives product teams the ability to gain insights into how to best acquire, convert, and retain their users across web and mobile platforms.

Powerful, flexible, and easy-to-use, Mixpanel enables teams to learn from their user data and innovate rapidly in creating winning products. Today, we serve nearly 7,000 paying customers through seven offices globally in our quest to provide the most in-depth product analytics that everyone can use and trust.

About the Team

The team's mission is to build a data platform that can not only power delightful customer experiences across Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, Support, and Product but also provide operational visibility into our business.

Data quality is foundational to our mission and we believe it is not something that can be “layered” solely in the platform. So we partner very closely with different functions across the company to make sure their systems are architected with data quality in mind and help automate critical workflows that impact the data quality.

This team presents a unique opportunity as you will not only get to play multiple roles within the team (analytics engineer, data engineer, and systems engineer) but you will also be helping us define and shape a data platform that will be foundational to our business. Additionally a lot of our customers also likely require similar solutions, so you’ll have the opportunity to influence not just Mixpanel but the broader industry as well!

We are a team of engineers with a wide range of experience having worked on almost all layers of Mixpanel’s tech stack, right from our website UX all the way to the internals of our distributed database engine and everything in between. We love applying our engineering skills to solve problems that have a direct business impact ranging from:

  • Enabling our marketing team to target our “Ideal customers” through ad campaigns
  • Helping our support team improve their response SLAs to customers
  • Alerting our sales & success teams to customers who hit product milestones
  • Helping our product team build Mixpanel for the Modern Data Stack

We primarily speak SQL & Python, use BigQuery as our data warehouse, and leverage dbt, Fivetran, Census & hightouch for building pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Work with various teams across the company to understand their use cases, identify problems, and design solutions that will empower the teams with high-quality data.
  • Build data pipelines that funnel high-quality data into our warehouse
  • Work with the data analysis/science teams to understand their analytics requirements and provide them access to clean data sets
  • Put in place tooling and frameworks to facilitate data governance, quality, and shared analysis between internal organizations
  • Own the data in the warehouse and represent the team with various stakeholders

We're Looking For Someone Who Has

  • 2+ years of experience in writing performant, iterable, and easy-to-debug SQL
  • 1+ years of experience in Python (or any other equivalent scripting language)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical aptitude and the ability to rapidly understand the business context from new data sets
  • A strong understanding of data quality testing
  • Individuals who are motivated by enabling and helping others within the company to be data-driven

Bonus Points For

  • Experience working with Google BigQuery, Redshift, or similar technologies
  • Familiarity with cloud-based ETL technologies (i.e Google cloud functions, Fivetran, tray.io, dbt, census)
