What’s the opportunity about?

We are looking for an AI Research Scientist Intern to join our team in Lisbon for a 3-month internship and focus on ground-breaking research on Responsible AI technologies, which will power the next generation of products at Unbabel. This is a great opportunity to spearhead the development of novel state-of-the-art and responsible AI technology and to see its impact in a real business case. Our research team has a high impact in the NLP and ML research fields with a strong track record of publications at the top conferences and widely used open-source software and by joining our team you will have the opportunity to do the same.

Responsibilities:

• Planning and executing a limited-scope novel research project that advances the state-of-the-art in Machine Translation, Quality Estimation, and Natural Language Processing
• Participating in partnerships with academia through joint projects
• Coordinating and working with the full-time Research Scientists on our team and our other Unbabel teams to understand and develop technology-based solutions to key challenges of the business.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Data Science or related field.
• Deep knowledge and experience of state-of-the-art research in Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing. Preference will be given to candidates currently pursuing a PhD in a related topic.
• A strong track record of publications in relevant areas
• 1+ years of experience with Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence techniques and tools.
• 1+ years of experience programming with Python, C++ and/or similar software development environments.
• Experience with Deep Learning frameworks such as PyTorch, Tensorflow or JAX
• Have a critical mindset to assess alternative approaches and evaluate potential research problems.
• Be goal-oriented and capable of breaking research problems into executable projects and deliverable milestones.
