Job Description

As the Head of the Data Science Mastery Programme, you will oversee the development, implementation, and growth of the 12-month program which is designed to accelerate the development of future-ready skills (Data Scientists) for the Standard Bank group.  You will be responsible for building competencies for the organisation at the intersection of “Business Sciences”, “Mathematics and Statistics”, and “Computer Sciences” through the Data Science job family. The programme aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry through action-based learning projects, technical training modules, business-specific modules, and self-mastery through coaching sessions.  You will also oversee the programme outcomes in multiple countries ensuring an accelerated ability to add value through on-the-job skills development and building experience through outcome oriented “Active Learning Projects” in a matrix mix of business rotations.

You will aspire to develop and maintain a world class Data Science Mastery programme that will attract top talent to apply to the programme and ensure that the stakeholders continue to choose this programme as their preferred data science talent pipeline.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field
  • At least 10-15 years of experience in a related field, with a strong track record of building and deploying predictive models and analytical solutions that drive business value
  • Strong knowledge and experience in data engineering, machine learning, and data storytelling.
  • Experience in leading and mentoring a team of data scientists and data analysts.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage with senior executives and external stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Experience in the financial services industry or related industries is preferred.
  • Demonstrable master level proficiency in the numerous (more than 1) data science tools, programming languages and algorithms equally comfortable in traditional and cloud environments.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in academia teaching on relevant topics and or managing a curriculum outcome.
