Importance of Data at Entera
At Entera, data is what drives us and is one of our core critical assets. Our customers depend on Entera because the combination of insights we generate and the data that we provide are not available anywhere else. We are creating a new space at the intersection of FinTech and PropertyTech.
We are proud of the data infrastructure and systems we have built to date – which have contributed to our company’s successes. There is so much more to build and we are looking for the right person who lives and breathes data to come join our team. Our stack includes Snowflake, Prefect, dbt, Airbyte, and Superset, to name a few. Our data engineering work is primarily in Python and SQL, while our partners on the application side operate primarily in Ruby and JavaScript.
The Role:
As a Staff Data Engineer, you will lead the charge in the designing and building of the next iteration of our data ecosystem. As a central leader on the team, you will not only contribute to a world-class data ecosystem and a strong data-driven culture, but also be a key mentor and coach to other engineers and analysts at Entera.
What You'll Do:
- System Architecture: Design and lead the creation of our next generation data ecosystem, in a way that supports our clients’ needs as well as our internal data science and analytics efforts
- ETL & Data Modeling: Design tables and ETL workflows with a focus on both speed and trustworthiness of the data that will feed our products and our internal BI reporting
- Coach the Team: Elevate the level of the entire Data Team by establishing best practices in coding, security, and data wrangling; coaching others on the Data Team through various activities such as paired-programming, mentoring, hosting lunch and learns, etc.
- Establish and Improve KPIs: Help set meaningful SLOs (Service-Level Objectives) and lead the team in achieving them
- Represent the company as a technical speaker: We have plenty of opportunities – whether at local meetups or larger conferences – to showcase our talents and share our journey in building our ecosystem
- Be a thought-leader and partner to our stakeholders: You’ll partner with multi-disciplinary experts throughout the company to help decide where to best focus our efforts and resources, and to envision the future of our product offerings
- Grow with us: At Entera, you’ll be able to further develop and hone your skills and receive ample support for your continued growth
- Raise the bar: Help to define and improve our internal standards for style, maintainability, and best practices for a high-scale data infrastructure
Who You Are:
- 7+ years hands-on experience in leadership in Data Engineering, with 4+ years at a growing, product-driven tech company
- Built and implemented several data warehouses in, both, AWS and GCP
- Intimately familiar with Prefect and/or Airflow
- Highly proficient in security best practices
- Able to teach advanced level Python and SQL
- Carry strong opinions in what makes for great code, and able to articulate to folks of various technical capabilities the reasoning behind these preferences
- Enjoy public speaking and discussing you and your team’s work
- Experienced in implementing highly-effective CI/CD pipelines consisting of multiple environments
- Able to break down complex projects into small chunks, and help to identify how to best distribute the workload across the team
- Operate at the cutting edge of technology, with the ability to discern what tools are worth implementing while not getting charmed by “shiny new objects”
- Strong knowledge in DevOps, including hands on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, & Terraform (or similar)
Nice to haves:
- Understanding of distributed compute frameworks like Spark or Dask
- Professional experience and/or personal interest in FinTech, Real Estate, and/or PropTech
- Experience with NoSQL / document-store databases
- Experience productionalizing Machine Learning models
*For those applicants in the NYC area, the salary range for this role is $160,000 to $275,000 plus an annual bonus. The salary offered will be based on experience, role, and location.
