Description

Our team is part of the larger Pathology efforts at Alphabet, and we combine the latest in machine learning (ML) research with life sciences domain expertise and Google’s infrastructure to create innovative solutions and bring them to the world. The candidate would be working in collaboration with Verily's microscopy, science, and clinical teams, and would build models and develop tools to diagnose and determine the best treatment regimen for various diseases.

Responsibilities

  • Work as an independent data scientist through the entire cycle of model generation, from study design, data collection and annotation, contributing to ML infrastructure, building and deploying AI/ML models, and analyzing Verily’s and public datasets to obtain insights to drive future directions. 
  • Collaborate and communicate with a dynamic cross org group of various stakeholders, including software engineers, hardware engineers, program manager, clinicians, pathologists, and partners. 
  • Actively participate in scoping requirements and research directions, planning activities, designing experiments, managing priorities, and proactively suggest improvements.
  • Follow scientific literature, attend scientific conferences, and present recent findings to the Verily data science community.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • PhD degree in machine learning, bioinformatics, statistics, applied mathematics or related disciplines, with 5+ years of industry experience / Masters with 8+ years of industry experience. 
  • Experience with developing machine learning algorithms, using both standard (SVMs, random forests etc.) and deep learning approaches.
  • Strong background in statistics.
  • Experience with programming and scientific computation using Python.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in working with large datasets, ideally in a cloud environment.
  • Strong background in image processing and analysis (segmentation, object identification and quantification, registration, denoising, normalization, feature extraction, etc.).
  • Strong publication record.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to utilize a collaborative approach to solving problems. 

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $140,000 - $205,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
