Senior Staff Software Engineer, Data

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

• Senior Staff Software Engineer, Data, Ripple Labs, Inc., San Francisco, CA. Lead the design and architecture of scalable data solutions on our cloud data platform, from requirements to implementation and delivery. Build systems and services that abstract engines and will allow users to focus on business and application logic via higher level programming models based on distributed processing compute engines. Build data pipelines and tools to keep pace with the growth of data and its consumers, with stream processing frameworks. Build scalable backend services and data pipelines. Identify and analyze requirements and use cases from multiple internal teams, including finance, compliance, analytics, data science, and engineering. Build and maintain infrastructure and empower data driven culture of Ripple’s distributed financial technology to outperform current banking infrastructure by driving down costs, increasing processing speeds and delivering end-to-end visibility into payment fees, timing, and delivery. Work with other technical leads to design solutions for the requirements. Mentor teammates on best practices in software and data engineering. Telecommuting permitted 50% or more but less than 100% per week within same geographic location as assigned office location.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

• Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field plus seven (7) years of software development experience (of which five (5) years must be post-baccalaureate progressive) in distributed systems and distributed processing compute engines. Alternatively, will accept a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field plus five (5) years of software development experience in distributed systems and distributed processing compute engines. Of the required experience, must have five (5) years of experience in at least two (2) of the following big data technologies (which may be gained concurrently): Hadoop; Kafka; Spark; or, Hive. Of the required experience, must have four (4) years of experience in at least three (3) of the following (which may be gained concurrently): Python; Java Virtual Machine Languages; Scala; or, MySQL. Of the required experience, must have three (3) years of experience in each of the following (which may be gained concurrently): data architecture and design; SQL and database programming in database systems (MySQL or Postgres); NoSQL distributed database systems (MongoDB); and building scalable backend services and data pipelines (using microservices, docker, kubernetes, or distributed ledger technology concepts).

  Of the required experience, must have three (3) years of experience in at least one (1) of the following cloud computing technologies (which may be gained concurrently): AWS (Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3); Amazon CloudWatch; Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2); GCP (BigQuery, Google Cloud Storage, or Pub/Sub); or, Azure (Azure Blob or Azure Synapse Analytics).

For positions that will be based in CA, the annual salary range for this position is $254,400 – $254,500/yr. Actual salaries may vary based on numerous factors including, among other things, an individual applicant’s experience and qualifications for the position.
