THE ROLEReporting to the Data Science Lead you will join Farfetch being part of building the next-generation intelligent platform for online luxury fashion, powered by large-scale data and Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Information Retrieval and Natural Language Processing algorithms. You will join a team of Data Scientists, Engineers, and Product Designers to help build and increase, through research and experimentation, our data-driven products.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Develop and implement state-of-the-art algorithms in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Information Retrieval (IR) with a focus on search relevance;
• Conduct practical research with a scientific mindset, and a focus on delivery;
• Work with the engineering team to integrate machine learning (ML) algorithms into the platform;
• Engage with partners, product managers and designers to help bring a shared vision of the search ecosystem;
• Explore and analyse big datasets to understand users interactions with search and propose experiments (AB tests) to improve user engagement;
• Scientific and technical publications are possible and encouraged.

WHO YOU ARE

• 4 years of experience in building search engines (both in natural language retrieval and ranking), recommendation systems and/or personalization;
• Hands-on experience with NLP (Transformers, word embeddings, named-entity recognition, information extraction, LLMs), Search (Vespa, Elasticsearch, Lucene, relevance matching);
• Experience in a Data Science role, working within a Retail and E-commerce environment;
• Fluent in Python, common numerical and Math & ML packages (NumPy, SciPy, scikit-learn, pandas, TensorFlow, PyTorch);
• You value good software engineering practices;
• Experienced in dealing with large amounts of data and building data pipelines in cloud Knowledge of experimental design and analysis, such as A/B testing;
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken;
• Interested in keeping up-to-date with scientific advancements.
