Energy Aspects currently have an exciting opportunity available for a Data Manager to join the Data team based out of our Kolkata office.
The successful candidate will oversee the setup and management of our Data management function in Kolkata. This team is integral to the continued future success of the Data and Research teams.
The Data management team is responsible for the full lifecycle of Energy Aspects’ databases, including those available to our clients and others used internally. You will collaborate with all research desks to ensure data is collected, collated, and maintained to very high standards.
The role requires occasional travel to our London head office for periods at a time to build relationships with key Research and Data team stakeholders and ensure successful collaboration between London and Kolkata.
Duties
- Work across the Research and Data teams to capture requirements, able to converse with a range of stakeholders including leadership, Data Analysts, Scientists and Engineers
- Maintain effective planning and communicate regular updates on projects to a leadership audience
- Ensure energy databases are collected, collated, and updated to the level of detail and cadence required by our research desks
- Understand how data is used and applied by our research teams to ensure data integrity beyond technical correctness
- Oversee the build, deploy and maintenance of data applications and tools
- Establish data quality monitoring and reporting processes to guarantee data integrity, working to proactively resolve any issues quickly
- Act as central point-of-contact for client queries regarding energy databases, including preparing and publishing methodology documents where appropriate
- Manage a team of data researchers, data analysts and data engineers to successfully deliver on business priorities
- Bring a pragmatic approach to data management, hygiene, and governance to the role
Requirements
- Extensive experience working in a technical data management role
- Previously responsible for establishing a team of data researchers and data analysts, with experience managing analytical and technical roles
- Experience working across time zones, primarily London/US, in a cross-functional role within a global company
- Experience of project management within an Agile framework and development environment
- Ability to learn new concepts quickly, apply a critical thinking approach to tackling large scale challenges
- Excellent communication skills
Desirable skills
- Strong knowledge of SQL databases, including the design, management, and querying thereof
- Working knowledge of Python for data collection, transformation, and database interaction
- Knowledge of cloud data platforms and related technology
- An interest in commodities, energy, or financial markets; a background in a market intelligence business
- Use of JIRA, Github, and other common technology collaboration tools
