This Subsurface Data Management Developer role provides the opportunity for someone with a solid awareness of the challenge of subsurface data management and analysis experience, as well as strong technical capabilities in and around subsurface database technologies and a geosciences, to assist the client with critical data strategies in support of the subsurface business areas. We are looking for someone who is passionate about the power of data to inform critical business decisions. Working knowledge of subsurface data and subsurface data management processes are of great importance for this role as are the technical skills as outlined below.

Requirements

With an understanding of the geosciences terminologies and data types, these individuals will be supporting geoscience technical data and applications such as Recall, OpenWorks, and other petrotechnical application suites and databases using their Data Modelling skills, SQL ETL, Python or Java programming, and their ability to generate dashboards using Power BI, Alteryx, etc.

The focus will be on building and supporting processes that perform data transformation, develop data structures, ensure the accurate representation and storage of metadata, understand data dependencies, and is able to improve performance and optimization of workflows surrounding the subsurface data applications.

Required Technology Skills:

  • Solid Java or Python programming capabilities,
  • Able to build and maintain Power BI dashboards and the underlying connections,
  • Advanced working knowledge in SQL (Structured Query Language), PL/SQL, Stored Procedures, and experience working with a variety of relational databases like Oracle and SQL Server, MS Access databases,
  • Understanding of data models and experience navigating through various physical data models/schemas,
  • Experience with the Recall database system,
  • Oracle database technology skills.

Desired Technology Skills

  • Strong analytic skills related to working with various datasets from multiple corporate databases,
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement,
  • Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, JavaScript, VB.NET,
  • Has knowledge of procedures for, and experience in Project Management,
  • Microsoft tech stack background,
  • Working experience with E&P data stores such as OSDU, PPDM, and similar 3rd party solutions such as the products from SLB, Landmark, P2, etc.

Required Business Skills

  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment,
  • Possesses an understanding of technical data management and business applications in upstream Oil and Gas (such as Recall, OpenWorks, etc.) and can give support to staff to properly manage the data across these,
  • Able to work with well-related data types: Header, core, logs, directional surveys.

Desired Business Skills

  • Has an understanding of the principles and practices involved in the development and maintenance of Data Management solutions,
  • Familiar working with Kanban and Agile processes to manage multiple tasks,
  • Communicates well, both orally and in writing, and has the skill to influence through persuasion in a formal context,
  • Able to work with ambiguity and demonstrated ability to create new solutions,
  • Work collaboratively, and able to communicate effectively with other disciplines,
  • Actively applies standards, develops new common operational procedures and standards, and shares those with the global technical data management community.
