Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join our Data Team. As a data engineer you will work with large complex data feeding from several source systems into a Centrally managed Data Warehouse. You will be required to extract data, design reports, automate reports, manage data projects, monitor and control data in our Data Warehouse.
We require a highly capable specialist who is organised, able to thrive under pressure and is comfortable engaging with both business stakeholders and technical teams.
The Role
The Data Engineer provides a range of relevant and practical data, analytical and reporting solutions and results to business & key-stakeholders, by sourcing, structuring, visualising and automating data into usable business reports and data assets. The Data Engineer is a key member within the Kaelo Reporting Team, who is fundamental in helping business in understanding data, and in general supporting Kaelo with insights and tools to improve all aspects of their operations and strategy.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Write scripts and procedures to automate data jobs, extracts and feeds to ensure a move towards more real-time and self-service reports and less manual report production.
- Use reporting visualisation tools such as Microsoft Power BI or QlikView to build.dashboards and reports that effectively presents and visualises data.
- Acquire datasets that align with business needs.
- Analyse source data systems and other unstructured data sources to understand and improve data availability and data quality.
- Develop business rules to transform data into useful, actionable information.
- Monitor and maintain Production Data Warehouse.
- Collaborate with management to understand company objectives.
- Create new data validation methods and data analysis tools.
- Ensure compliance with data governance and security policies.
- Gather, clarify, interpret and document reporting requirements from business.
- Transform, merge and enrich data from various sources to make it usable and more valuable to the business.
- Mine, analyse and construct manual ad-hoc or prototype reports that help business understand key insights, and/or identify new reports for automation and dashboarding.
- Improve data and information processes and databases where opportunities arise.

Education
- Batchelors Degree in Computer, information science or Data Sciences (preferred).
- Advantageous- Qualifications in:
- SSIS.
- Data Warehouse.
- SQL.
- Power BI.
- Microsoft Office (Advanced Excel).
- VBA (optional) and/or Python.
- Data analysis, reporting or dashboarding tools.
- Trending, reporting, visualisation, or other data techniques.
- Enterprise architecture models or methods.
- Software development.
Work experience:
- 4-5 years working experience in an analytical, reporting or data warehouse team, ideally within the Healthcare or Medical Sector.
- Practical work experience with trending and presenting data.
- Strong working knowledge of all major database technologies.
- Experience creating business requirement and functional requirement documents.
- Practical work experience on systems development projects and business improvement initiatives.
- Practical experience working on inter-departmental system analysis activities and deliverables.
- Demonstrable business analysis skills, such as business process mapping, systems and data analysis, process modelling and the production of high-quality written documentation.
- Proven experience of working collaboratively with stakeholders.
- Experience with requirements workshops, project documentation and specs, and engaging with other technical teams.
Technical Skills:
- SSIS (Intermediary) (essential).
- Data analysis (power BI, SQL preferred) (essential).
- MS Office with advanced Excel (essential).
- Data warehouse administration.
- VBA – advanced excel or python.
- Project management tools – Jira, Slack, Fresh, MS Project.
- Excellent technical writing skills.
- Process design and optimisation skills (Visio skills a bonus).
- Main frame systems experience such as MIP.

- Ability to understand and engage with technical and business teams on highly complex projects.
