University Professor of Artificial Intelligence in Protein Science

(open rank: either W3 or W1 with tenure track to W3)

This is a permanent civil service position. In the case of a W1 / W3 tenure track, employment will initially be on a fixed-term civil servant basis with permanent tenure following a positive evaluation.

For this professorship, we are looking for a dynamic and creative researcher with an internationally visible profile in the research area of machine learning (ML) and/or artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of protein biochemistry. Future-oriented and innovative research interests of the applicant may lie, for example, in the prediction of molecular properties such as structure and/or interactions of biological macromolecules, the development of novel methods and applications in the field of AI- / ML-supported visualization and characterization of biomacromolecular complexes and their dynamics, or generative molecular design.

If classified as W1 with tenure track to W3, we are looking for an early-career scholar with the ability to work independently and who has high development potential. You have completed your doctorate with above-average success and are internationally visible in the fields of artificial intelligence and structure-based protein biochemistry, as evidenced by your first publications in recognized journals or conference contributions. Interest in interdisciplinary cooperation and willingness to acquire external funding are expected.

If classified as a W3 professor, you will also have a Habilitation or Habilitation-equivalent qualifications. Applicants should have international credentials due to broad-based, excellent research activity. You can demonstrate high-ranking publications in international peer-reviewed journals and the independent acquisition and supervision of competitive third-party funding projects.

All applicants will have the potential for outstanding teaching achievements in both ML / AI and (bio)chemistry. A willingness to engage in undergraduate research-oriented teaching, teaching export, and the development of new master’s programmes is expected. The ability to teach in English is expected. International applicants should be able to teach in German at least in the medium term. They will bring social and leadership skills and a willingness to participate in academic self-governance.
