What’s the role?

 We are looking for Research Scientist Interns to join our team. As a highly visual platform, we are committed to advancing the field of CV by innovating technologies to help match our buyers’ tastes with our seller’s unique inventory. We are seeking individuals passionate in Deep Learning and Computer Vision and Machine Learning.  Experience in Diffusion models,  Visual Language Models, Image captioning, Style transfer or Natural Language Processing is beneficial. 

As the Research Scientist Intern, you will be responsible for making core algorithmic advances and applying these ideas in the dynamic world of E-commerce! At the end of the summer, we will strive to publish innovations at premier conferences such as KDD, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ICCV, WWW, WSDM & SIGIR! Do you find happiness in rapidly prototyping ideas and solving complex problems by adapting creative approaches that affect the experience of millions of users over the world? This is a full-time, temporary position reporting to the Director of Data Science and Machine Learning and the base salary range will be 60.00- 70.00 USD per hour. For this role, we are considering candidates based in U.S. who are either remote, flex, or office-based. Etsy offers different work modes to meet the variety of needs and preferences of our team. What does the day-to-day look like?

• Contribute to research that can be applied to product development.
• Develop proof of concepts and tackle problems through creative approaches.
• Identify baselines, datasets, experiments and metrics for your project.
• Work closely and collaboratively with Applied Scientists and engineers.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations. Engage with the academic community by presenting your work and speaking at conferences and events. 
• Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.

Qualifications

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• Enrolled in a full-time Ph.D degree program in Machine Learning or another related, quantitative field.
• Experience or curiosity about publishing papers at top-tier conferences.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills. You are familiar with techniques in Machine Learning & Data Mining, in the topics mentioned above.
• Had some experience in and exposure to Computer Vision through coursework, projects, prior internships, or other work experience
• Strong technical and programming skills and familiar with relevant technologies and languages (e.g. Python, Java, C++, etc.).
• Capability to review and write technical papers.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills and you make the engineers around you grow and learn.
• Trust in and dedication to Etsy’s vision, mission and values.
