Team Overview

The Data Engineering team is responsible for developing the internal tooling and infrastructure associated with the collection, storage, and processing of all of the sensor datasets used across Luminar’s software development lifecycle. One of our main software projects at the moment is the development of an on-car web-based UI tool which is used for the following core functions: data collection, real-time data visualization, and software monitoring. As the lead front-end engineer on the team, you will focus on improving the overall user experience of this tool by developing additional UI features including 3D robotics visualizations and system controls, and also improving the front end responsiveness and runtime performance.

 

Responsibilities

  • Build awesome UI components using React.js
  • Design and develop flexible and customizable UI layouts 
  • Build 3D data visualizations using popular Javascript graphics frameworks such as WebGL and Three.js
  • Coordinate with other software engineering teams and our vehicle operations team on gathering use cases and design requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4+ years of extensive experience building web applications using best practices
  • Strong proficiency in Typescript/Javascript, CSS (SASS/SCSS is highly preferred), and HTML
  • Deep understanding of ReactJS and other popular Javascript frameworks
  • Ability to quickly pick up new web technologies
  • Familiarity with core UX design principles
  • Strong communication skills, being able to collaborate with the wider software organization
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Computer Science

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Python 
  • Experience building scalable backend APIs
  • Experience with Javascript graphics libraries including WebGL and Three.js
  • Experience with the MaterialUI React component library
  • Experience with front end testing frameworks

At Luminar, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays a base between $142,000 and $199,000* per year. Within this range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. You will also be eligible to receive other benefits including: equity in the form of restricted stock unit awards, comprehensive medical and dental coverage, 401k plan, life and disability benefits, flexible time off, paid parental leave, and tuition reimbursement for formal education related to advancing your career at Luminar. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire and schedule type.

*Note that the pay range listed for this position is a good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting.
