About the Role

SGS is looking for a Junior Data Scientist to join our team dedicated to developing and integrating AI solutions that address critical national security initiatives. As a Junior Data Scientist, you will use your analytical and statistical skills to evaluate data for bias and suitability, prepare data for modeling, develop and evaluate models, and communicate results internally and with customers. 

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with other Data Scientists to apply machine learning (ML) expertise, as well as develop and deliver novel customer solutions 
  • Independently and effectively engage with external technical stakeholders and subject matter experts to understand and solve critical business problems through the application of cutting-edge AI 
  • Design and deploy ML models for commercial and industrial applications, such as anomaly detection, prescriptive maintenance, and logistics 
  • Collaborate with project teams through all phases of the data science process, from data exploration and processing, feature selection and engineering, model training and testing, and information synthesis
  • Maintain and apply deep understanding and application of all relevant SparkCognition products/technologies to support ongoing projects and proposal work
  • Use and/or identify procedures and automated toolsets to efficiently and effectively perform data science activities
  • Contribute internally and externally to AI product development and key data science research areas 

About You

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to meet Security Clearance eligibility requirements for access to classified information
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related scientific discipline
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of data science, including basic elements of machine learning, statistics, and probability 
  • Strong understanding of descriptive and inferential statistics (e.g., Empirical Rule and hypothesis testing) 
  • Experience with one or more data science programming languages (e.g., Python or R) 
  • Experience with one or more ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow/Keras, and Theano) 
  • Applied knowledge of ML techniques/algorithms including linear and logistic regression, neural networks, decision trees, Bayesian techniques, clustering, and anomaly detection
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively on a project team, as well as effectively prioritize workload to meet deadlines and work objectives
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to translate complex technical topics to internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to form strong working relationships with team members, cross-departmentally, and customers' technical teams

Even Better

  • Experience working in the Defense or Aerospace industry 
  • Familiarity working cross-functionally with Agile development methodologies
  • Experience using GitLab to manage software projects 
  • Experience with best coding practices such as establishing virtual environments, passing environment variables, object-oriented programming, and others 
  • Experience with developing web applications and/or interfacing with APIs 
  • Graduate degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related scientific discipline
