About the role:
Samsara’s Customer Success (CS) team advises and guides our customers, ensuring they adopt Samsara and continuously gain business value from our products. We are the trusted point of contact for Samsara’s customers throughout their lifecycle: onboarding, adoption, advocacy, and renewal.
Data is central to everything we do at Samsara. We are in the business of providing data & insights to our customers to help them drive efficiency, safety and sustainability within their physical operations. The Customer Success Operations Data Engineer will be responsible for building data architectures and solutions to enable Samsara’s Customer Success function. This is a cross-functional role which will engage with functions like Sales, Product, Engineering, Marketing, and of course, Customer Success - working closely with these functions to build data solutions to drive deep understanding of our clients and how best to serve them. You will be part of the Customer Success Operations team and the first data engineer in Customer Success, which is a critical component of our Go To Market motion.

In this role, you will:
- Design and build facts, dimensions and snapshots
- Create data models and perform performance tuning
- Develop highly optimized data pipelines and transformation logic on large and wide data sets using industry best practices
- Foster a deep understanding of Samsara's product dashboard, customers, and their metrics
- Work effectively using scrum with multiple team members to deliver analytical solutions to the business functions
- Solve data production problems
- Build resalable datasets and metrics for operations and customer success use
- Code review and support of pipelines developed by other engineers
- Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices
Minimum requirements for the role:
- Bachelors’ degree, from an accredited university
- Prior experience working with Databricks, BigQuery, Snowflake, S3
- Preferred experience with Python, Airflow, DbT
- Prior experience in designing data models product and business data sets
- Knowledge of subscription focussed metrics such as ACV/ARR metrics. Very comfortable building data models for sales
- Very comfortable in designing facts, dimensions, snapshots, SCDs
- Communication Skills: Data Engineers are part of a team, working with strategy and operations teammates, Customer Success & Implementation managers, and Samsara GTM leadership
- Attention to Detail: Databases are complex, and a minute error can cause huge problems
- Problem-Solving Skills: Data Engineers look at an issue that needs to be solved and come up with solutions quickly
- Growth Learner: desire to continue to learn about where the data technology is progressing
An ideal candidate also has:
- 4+ years of experience with very large scale data warehouse projects
- Experience working with APIs to collect or ingest data
- Strong Database knowledge of Data Warehouse technologies
- Demonstrated academic or professional statistics and math skills
- Ability to write complex SQL for processing raw data, data validation and QA
Samsara’s Compensation Philosophy: Samsara’s compensation program is designed to deliver total compensation (based on role, level, and geography) that is above market. We do this through our OTE + restricted stock units (RSUs). RSUs are awarded at hire and may be refreshed annually. Additionally, as a pay-for-performance company, there are additional RSU grant awards for top performers which allow employees to achieve higher market positioning.The range of annual on-target earnings (OTE) range for full-time employees for this position is below. Please note that OTE pay may vary depending on factors including your city of residence, job-related knowledge, skills.$87,280—$125,463 USD
