We support NBCU’s vast portfolio of brands - from broadcast, cable, news, and sports networks to film studios, world-renowned theme parks and a diverse suite of digital properties. The Data & Analytics (D&A) team at NBCUniversal is looking for a passionate Data Engineer who’s looking to build the next generation of data analytics solutions while working with internal stakeholders, data engineers, visualization experts, data scientists, and other technologists across one or more of our main subject areas. The Data Engineer role is right for you if you’re a “hands-on” coder who can build and cleanse large datasets to report out actionable insights. As a data engineer working on our data systems and services, you will work with a team of other data engineers to deliver projects and systems critical to Research. We expect our data engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic about taking on new problems across our businesses as we continue to build great things for Research Analytics.

Job Description

  • Design, build, test, scale and maintain data pipelines from a variety of source systems and streams (Internal, third party, cloud based, etc.), according to business and technical requirements.
  • Deliver observable, reliable, and secure software, embracing “you build it you run it” mentality, and focus on automation and GitOps.
  • Interface with other technology teams to extract, transform, and load data from a wide variety of data sources using cloud-native data engineering principles
  • Interact with Product Managers and Quality Engineers to deliver high-quality, high-profile data systems and services
  • Implement the appropriate design patterns while optimizing performance, cost, security, and scale and end user experience
  • Continually work on improving the codebase and have active participation in all aspects of the team, including agile ceremonies.
  • Work with Principal Engineers and Architects to share and contribute to the broader technical vision.
  • Develop and champion best practices, striving towards excellence and raising the bar within the department
  • Operationalize data processing systems (dev ops)
  • Troubleshoot and fix production issues as they occur

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience in a data engineering role or related work experience
  • Direct experience with data modeling, ETL development, and data warehousing 
  • Knowledge of data management fundamentals and data storage principles  
  • Experience with Python/Javascript or similar programming languages  
  • Hands-on experience with SQL and Tableau 
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems or related field.

  • Experience with AWS, Snowflake, Python, Airflow
  • Communicator – You have excellent verbal and written skills with the ability to communicate ideas effectively across all levels of the organization, both technical and non-technical
  • Action-oriented – You're constantly figuring out new problems and are regularly showing results with a positive attitude, always displaying ethical behavior, integrity, and building trust
  • Strong understanding of Agile principles and best practices
  • You’ve dealt with ambiguity and can make quality decisions in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Collaborative - Works well in a team. Excited to succeed and to help other data engineers succeed
  • Eager to learn and stretch your boundaries while you learn and leverage new technologies
  • Open to new approaches and new ideas
  • Can take initiative to independently solve issues

This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
