Reporting to the Manager, Data Science, the Data Scientist conducts new or enhanced analytical approaches to drive insights to support the credit union’s overall strategic plans and business objectives and offers recommendations and input into decisions pertaining to business risk and opportunities. As a Data Scientist, you are accountable for modeling to solve complex problems, developing predictive systems and identifying opportunities using algorithms, mining and visualization techniques. In addition to advanced analytic skills, you are also proficient at utilizing leading edge techniques for analyzing social media, transactional/sales data, unstructured data, market research surveys, employee data and other data sets.

In this position, you will support and provide leadership to the Data Analytics team members, and other internal departments and stakeholders. The Data Scientist takes ownership, and delivers on, cross- functional projects that have been assigned. You'll bring the ability to acquire and understand business needs - question and translate them into an effective analytics plan, execute the analysis, and then translate the findings into strategic insights and provide actionable recommendations.

The scope of your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading, planning, and following an agile Team Data Science process, for assigned projects on an end-to-end basis, defining a suitable data-oriented approach to address a business problem, and developing a work plan for all stages of the Data Science life cycle.
  • Utilizing innovative new approaches incorporating predictive modeling, data and text mining, machine learning approaches, clustering and classification techniques, regression procedures, conjoint/discrete choice modeling, and other techniques to analyze current and prospective members and deliver actionable insights and predictive models to drive business growth and member engagement.
  • Stakeholders span our full range of retail, commercial, and wealth business lines, and a broad selection of engagements including member acquisition, cross sell, recommendations, product line optimization, online and mobile app analytics, risk management, and fraud monitoring

Requirements

To qualify, you will need at least the following:

  • Undergraduate degree in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Econometrics, Mathematics, or equivalent work experience.
  • Advanced level skill in data analytics and programming applications such as SPSS, Python, R, and Excel.
  • Exceptional analytical and conceptual skills – ability to interpret measurement results and understand the business implications.
  • Strong knowledge of statistics and predictive methods such as SEM, multiple and logistic regression, Bayesian modeling, support vector machines, deep learning, tree induction techniques like CHAID, CART, random forest, decision tree, and natural language processing.
  • Proven experience in the development, deployment, and management of predictive models, in alignment with a ML Flow methodology.
  • Ability to work within a Databricks platform as well as experience working with Apache Spark
  • Multi-tasking and priority setting – ability to effectively manage multiple projects of varying complexity.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Able to translate complex data into actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Previous experience in model deployment, whether in live stream data or within an application
  • Have proven experience effectively managing projects and workflows within an agile environment following a Microsoft Team Data Science Process.
  • Previous experience in marketing analytics is desirable.
  • Experience with cross-sell, up-sell, retention, and customer lifetime value models.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and demonstrated effectiveness in working with both business and technical audiences.
