Job Description

We are looking for an experienced data scientist with knowledge of fraud detection and prevention in the area of excise products (e.g., tobacco, alcohol). The person will support our work with key government clients in investigation and enforcement activities.  

Dentsu Tracking is a global leader in digital supply chain control (track & trace) systems. Our technical solutions provide national and international enforcement bodies with visibility over end-to-end product flows in the supply chain, with the core objective to support the fight against illicit trade and to enable better control over tax collection processes. A data-driven approach lies at the core of our solution. To date, Dentsu operates the world’s largest regulatory track & trace solution (for tobacco products).  

Your responsibilities:

  • Apply advanced data analytics methods to large data sets in order to help understand trade activities in the supply chain and identify potential anomalies and/or frauds.  
  • Use fraud analytics concepts to collect, analyse, and interpret large data sets in order to uncover anomalies and fraud patterns.   
  • Develop and use big data and/or machine learning techniques to enable the automatic detection and prevention of fraud activities at different levels in the supply chain process. 
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and data engineers to deploy advanced analytic solutions into the operational environment of Dentsu’s supply chain control solutions. 

Qualifications

Key skills: 

  • Practiced in exploratory data analysis (EDA) and manipulating large data sets. 
  • Proven track record working on fraud detection and prevention projects.
  • Experience working with data visualisation tools and creating data visualisation concepts. 
  • Hands-on experience with business intelligence tools such as QuickSight. 
  • Experience performing statistical analysis and using tools such as SAS, R, or equivalent. 
  • Experience using programming/scripting language, such as Python or equivalent, and database query languages like SQL is desirable. 
  • Data Wrangling – proficiency in handling imperfections in data.  
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud technologies would be of added value. 
  • Experience in agile project management frameworks.
  • Open to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple teams and customers in a dynamic entrepreneurial organization. 
  • Ability to clearly and thoroughly document investigation findings and conclusions. 
  • Effectively communicate technical concepts and findings to a non-analytic audience (both internal and external stakeholders). 

Qualification

  • University Degree (Master or PhD) in statistics, analytics, industrial engineering, computer science, mathematics, economics, or a related field. 
  • 8+ years of experience as data scientist / analyst.  
  • 5+ years of experience in fraud analytics work.  
  • Knowledge of the supply chain sector and excise products in particular, such as alcohol and tobacco, is highly desirable. 
  • Previous work on projects involving government audience is of added value.  
  • Fluency in the English language.
