Job Description

This position is in our Single Family Analytics division supporting industry-leading automated underwriting applications, Desktop Underwriter and Collateral Underwriter. These tools are two of our most widely used mortgage solutions. They use data and analytics to improve the origination process for borrowers, enhance loan quality, and further Fannie Mae’s mission to provide access to credit in a sustainable manner. 

As a valued colleague on our team, you will act as a team lead to produce insights, new product or change recommendations, process improvement or automation, and predictive modeling. You will partner and coordinate with data engineering and data management teams, and provide guidance to your team in the application of data mining techniques to external or created data sources in preparation for analysis or use of enterprise data assets.

Additionally you will coach, mentor, and guide team members in the application of data mining and data analysis methods, be adept with common large data processing techniques, computational programing capabilities, practical problem-solving skills, and have an ability to articulate solutions to non-technical consumers or partners.

THE IMPACT YOU WILL MAKE
The Single Family - Data Science - Lead Associate role will offer you the flexibility to make each day your own, while working alongside people who care so that you can deliver on the following responsibilities:

  • Coordinate product and/or business owners across divisions or product lines, data engineers, and platform teams to define business needs and advise on current capabilities, data availability, and alternative uses.
  • Lead the implementation of new statistical modeling capabilities which requires skillful coordination of multiple processes, systems, and/or stakeholders.
  • Use advanced predictive analytic capabilities to enhance the delivery of business applications, and support the integration of data and statistical models or algorithms. Apply new or innovative practices in research and testing to product development, deployment, and maintenance .
  • Design new modeling applications to support risk measurement, financial valuation, decision making, and business performance.
  • Design data visualizations, technical documentation, and non-technical presentation materials to communicate new ideas and high-impact solutions to business partners.

Qualifications

THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

Minimum Required Experiences

  • 4 years
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent

Functional

  • Skilled in presenting information and/or ideas to an audience in a way that is engaging and easy to understand
  • Experience gathering accurate information to explain concepts and answer critical questions
  • Ability to frame ideas as systems and analyzing the inputs, outputs, and process

Technical Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to conduct and manage analysis to address complex business problems
  • Expertise in using statistical models, including: developing and testing hypotheses, using experimental design, and running linear and logistic regressions
  • Programming including coding, debugging, and using relevant languages such as Python, SAS, SQL, or similar
  • Expertise in visualizing data to identify, summarize and explain observed data patterns
  • Experience in the process of analyzing data to identify trends or relationships to inform conclusions about the data.


Leadership Skills

  • Adept at managing project plans, resources, and people to ensure successful project completion
  • The group of skills related to Influencing including negotiating, persuading others, facilitating meetings, and resolving conflict


Desired Experiences

  • Master's Degree in any field relevant to Data Science 
  • Experience helping an organization to plan and manage change in effort to meet strategic objectives
  • The group of skills related to Product Development including designing products, developing product roadmaps, translating design requirements, prototyping, etc.
  • Experience working for a financial services company
  • Skilled in cloud technologies and cloud computing
