As a Principal Machine Learning Engineer - Search, you'll build machine learning based search solutions on the Search & Discovery team. The mission of the team is to connect a billion users with the best connections and content at the right time, covering an extremely diverse range of recommendations and search problems at high scale. This is fundamental to how we personalize the experience to increase engagement and retention for Roblox users. Our Search systems suggest the relevant experiences the users want to see and engage across all surfaces. With daily active users growing at a record rate, we are looking for experienced machine learning engineers who are passionate about designing and building machine learning solutions to power our Search systems. You will report to the Senior Engineering Manager of Search & Discovery.

You Will:

• Design and implement Machine Learning solutions that power the search systems driving Roblox content distribution
• Help the team solve problems to understand search queries from users across the world by adapting state of the art NLP approaches
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to apply the ML techniques in best possible way to make sure we are building products with a community first mindset
• Balance researching new technologies with a practical approach to incorporating the research efforts into the Roblox products
• Communicate with the industry and communities where applicable and be an ambassador for Roblox

You Are:

• A Bachelor, Master or a Phd graduate in Computer Science, Machine Learning or related discipline
• Good with Computer Science fundamentals - Core Data Structures and Algorithms
• Battle Ready: You have 5+ years of experience designing and building scalable machine learning and search solutions that serve content to millions or billions of users
• Have strong theoretical background in Information Retrieval, Core Machine learning, Natural Language Processing and Deep learning concepts and techniques
• Experienced in solving Information Retrieval, Natural Language processing and Machine learning problems at scale
• Proficient with PyTorch or TensorFlow or any other Deep learning frameworks in building ML solutions
• A Leader: You have initiated and facilitated challenging technical decisions across multiple teams and organizations. Interested in keeping up to date with the cutting edge NLP approaches and would like to adapt those novel solutions to user facing problems at scale
• User oriented: While deeply technical, you always start with the needs of the user, whether they are Roblox users or internal engineers.
• Creative: You take a creative and strategic approach to solving hard problems. You simplify the complex problem into solvable sub problems. You bring in fresh ideas from new places.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.  All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.Annual Salary Range$267,720—$331,640 USD
