Job Description

Huawei’s Vancouver Research Center is responsible for advanced technology research, architecture design and strategic technical planning. Our Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Lab is responsible for developing and researching next generation AI-powered decision-making platform. We believe that platforms that combine human knowledge with AI and automation technology can substantially improve the efficiency and responsiveness of decision-making process. We embrace cutting-edge technology if it improves our work or results. Our team consists of world class AI and optimization researchers and is agile with academic and industrial experience in artificial intelligences and operations research.

Responsibilities:

  • Formulate, analyze and solve real-world problems originating from industrial applications, such as manufacturing, transportation, logistics, energy, and finance.
  • Contribute to the design of new algorithms or to the improvement of the current tools for solving hard real-world operations research problems.
  • Contribute to the design of AI-powered decision-making platform that automates decision process and is easy to rapidly implement applications and services.
  • Research, develop and implement various optimization algorithms for current optimization software.

Qualifications

Applicants are expected to demonstrate a significant subset of the following knowledge and skills:

  • Bachelor, Master or PhD in Operations Research, Computer Science, Computational Mathematics, or related fields.
  • Experience in solving industrial-level mathematical optimization problems with applications in manufacturing, transportation, logistics, energy, finance, or related fields.
  • Strong ability in mathematical modelling and problem solving techniques.
  • In-depth understanding of classical mathematical optimization problems, such as linear programming, mixed-integer programming, vehicle routing problems, constraint optimization, and scheduling problems.
  • In-depth understanding of classical mathematical optimization algorithms, such as simplex algorithm, interior-point algorithm, branch-and-bound, column generation, decomposition techniques, meta-heuristic algorithms, and graph algorithms.
  • Experience with off-the-shelf optimization software (e.g., Gurobi, CPLEX, FICO XPress).
  • Strong experience with machine learning techniques is a plus.
  • Dedication to producing extremely high-quality code that meets strict performance requirements, is readable and obvious to coworkers, is easy to maintain and extend, and adheres to coding standards.
