CERN
CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is one of the world’s largest and most respected centres for scientific research. Its business is fundamental physics, finding out what the Universe is made of and how it works.Company Description
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
Diversity has been an integral part of CERN's mission since its foundation and is an established value of the Organization.

Join our multi-disciplinary Data Science for Beam Operation team and work at the heart of CERN to optimize particle accelerator operations. You will:
- Establish best practices for data preparation and collection, architecture, and hyper parameter tuning.
- Collaborate with team members to establish state-of-the-art algorithms for various accelerator operations projects.
- Investigate the use of foundation models, notably for hysteresis prediction in collaboration with a PhD student.
Qualifications
Eligibility criteria:
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- You have a Master’s degree and between 2 and 6 years’ experience or PhD with up to 3 years of relevant experience in Data Science (e.g. Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence) or other related field.
- You should have a working knowledge of English or French.
Skills and/or knowledge:
- Proven data science experience solving concrete problems in the field.
- Experience using machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn.
- Experience in building and training ML models for simple regression, computer vision to time series prediction problems.
Additional Information
What we offer:
- An employment contract of in principle 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months;
- On-the-job and formal training at CERN as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French;
