Job Description

As the fastest growing online fashion retailer in the UK, ASOS is constantly striving to drive our business forward and be at the cutting edge of fashion, life, and talent. Therefore, we are on the lookout for driven and entrepreneurial people to join our fast paced and exciting business. At the core of ASOS lies passion for the industry, the company, and the people. We work with brands to showcase their products through a fashion lens reaching an engaged 20-something audience who want to look great and express themselves authentically through fashion.

Data at ASOS

Our mission is to create reusable, high quality and trusted data to unlock business value across ASOS. We believe in fast insight to action, effective commercial decision making through business intelligence and state of the art data science and AI capabilities. To achieve our mission, we are building a data organisation which will lead cultural and organisational change. This includes transitioning ASOS to a data product organisation, evolving our data architecture and embedding data capabilities company wide. To help us progress along this journey we have created the new role of Head of Data Governance. This role will report to the Director of Insight and Analytics to ensure close business alignment and organisational cut through.

About the Role

At ASOS, as an online only retailer, we have unique datasets – transactions and click streams for millions of customers and thousands of unique products. These datasets drive self-serve, analysis and models – often with a direct impact on our customers. As the new Head of Data Governance you will develop the Data Governance strategy and lead on its execution, including but not limited to implementing standards and policies to ensure data quality in a fast paced environment, driving engagement and communication across the business and shaping the ASOS Data Fluency program. Reporting to the Director of Insight and Analytics you will be closely aligned to commercial decision making and priorities, allowing you to maximise the impact of your strategy.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Orchestrate data governance activities across the entire organisation and be responsible for managing data governance standards and processes to support fast paced and trustworthy delivery
  • Work closely with the wider data leadership team to implement your strategy alongside ongoing data and business initiatives, ensuring high quality data delivery
  • Build a wide network of stakeholders across ASOS to educate and excite on the topic while engaging with data users to drive improvements in data stewardship, quality, and management
  • Shape the ASOS Data Fluency programme covering communications and data upskilling – this will include working with the data leadership team to define data personas, set a baseline and targets as well as choosing the right training providers and tooling
  • Recruit, lead and develop further data governance roles as we build out the data organisation.

About You:

  • You are passionate about unlocking the benefits of accurate, available data to drive measurable business impact with insights and data products.
  • You have a proven track record of successfully introducing and leading a Data Governance function to drive cultural change
  • You possess strong influencing and networking skills to help build and foster strong business relationships with stakeholders.
  • You have deep technical knowledge within data governance, data management, or similar data-focused subject area, and preferably hold a relevant methodology certification (e.g., DAMA CDMP, DCAM or similar)
  • Good knowledge of key analytical tools & languages (SQL, Adobe, Google Analytics, Data Studio, Databricks)
  • You thrive working collaboratively and proactively in a fast-paced environment alongside product owners, scientists, analysts, and engineers.
  • You have fantastic communication skills and can facilitate discussions across teams and with senior business stakeholders
  • You communicate effectively to all business levels clearly, confidently and concisely.
  • You actively engage in continuous innovation with a strong desire to continue learning in order to stay relevant to business changes and industry trends
