The Opportunity

Come and discover the opportunity to join the Data and Analytics Team as a Data Engineer in our IT function. Be part of a dynamic, innovative, collaborative and customer centric team focused on supporting the Bluescope Building Components (BBC) division within our business.

This role is critical to building the data assets that result in driving business value from our data and enabling data-driven decision making.

To unlock the business value in our data, there is a requirement to deliver data assets to the organisation, enabling users to exploit data and information for decision making, insights and analytics. Presently, the data landscape within BBC is diverse and there is limited understanding of our data warehouses which are complex.

You will play a key in changing this and building quality, trusted, governed and secure data assets for the organisation

This is a permanent role based in Mascot NSW

What Will You Do?

Using your business and technology acumen you will be the key interface between the BBC business and the Data and Analytics team within the IT function, you will assist in better defining, consolidating and exploiting the BBC data and information landscape for improved business insight.

To achieve this, you will:

  • Design, create and maintain secure data pipelines and data assets
  • Analyse business requirements with the view to deliver outcomes through data mining and data wrangling
  • Develop managed data pipelines through a series of zones or stages within a data lake, from data sources or endpoints of acquisition to integration to consumption for specific use cases
  • Provide technical expertise, training, and consultation to other staff for Data and Analytics related technologies
  • Use innovative and modern tools, techniques and architectures to partially or completely automate the data preparation and integration tasks within data asset pipelines

More About You

With your extensive knowledge of Data engineering and data asset development you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in relevant discipline
  • Experience in a Data Engineer role including analytics
  • Demonstrated domain experience in data extraction consolidation and modelling technologies
  • Solid understanding of Agile project delivery methods
  • Experience with visualisation tools such as Power BI and Cognos
  • Programming and scripting skills using Python and SQL (Sequel)
  • Experience working with Azure PaaS services and DevOps
  • Knowledge of ITIL framework and project management methodologies
