This role is part of our Individual Life Group – the number one in Individual Life sales across Australia.

We are a group diverse in skills and geographically reach covering core functions in sales, marketing, product design, underwriting and channel distribution.

Together, our team plays a significant role in delivering TAL's Priorities and we partner with our customers to ensure that the choices, options and freedoms that matter to them are protected.

The Retail Underwriting & Operations Data & Analytics team is a trusted partner for the Retail Distribution channel at TAL, primarily focused on BI insights for the Underwriting and Operations areas. The team plays a pivotal role in reporting business performance which helps drive both strategic and tactical strategy for the business. 

In this role, you will be involved in requirements gathering, data analysis, and report development through to showcasing to stakeholders. We use a variety of tools in our day to day work i.e. SQL, SSIS, Power BI, Tableau, Excel etc.

Key internal relationships are integral to achieve optimal results for reporting. The role requires the successful applicant to liaise business leaders to gather reporting requirements and transform these in viable solution designs in consultation with DBA's, data architects, SMEs and data stewards.

The Data analyst plays an integral part in executing the BI strategy and support of ongoing BI reporting requirements to the business. The role requires a strong understand of capturing business requirements, translating them and delivering outcomes in the form of BI reporting solutions and pieces of analytics. The role is to act as a conduit between the business and technology leveraging the capabilities of Enterprise BI technologies to drive insightful commercial decisions.

The role requires adoption of industry best practices and adherences to governance standards in the delivery of BI solutions design and implementation.

Key Accountabilities include:

* Working closely with end users to understand business needs and requirements to ensure that a reporting solution can be developed to address business requirements.
* Being accountable to daily reporting SLA's ensuring that reports are delivered to stakeholders within agreed delivery time frames.
* When required, facilitating workshops to capture business requirements pertaining to information needs to support business decision making.
* Managing the activities to ensure engagement and delivery to stakeholders.
* Working closely with TAL Continuous delivery team to ensure reporting solutions are built in line with CD team.
* Working alongside Enterprise data to ensure the correct data sources and architecture, resources are used for reporting solutions.  
* Assisting in articulating BI solutions requirements by acting as the conduit between IT and business users.
* Developing the BI reporting solutions by using enterprise BI technology.
* Developing SSIS/SSAS/PBI models to ensure information in the reports meet the business requirements.
* Providing solution designs or proof of concepts (POC) using appropriate tools in sync with the solution architects.
* Capturing and documenting functional specifications, business requirement analysis, flowcharts and process maps as and when needed.  

Qualifications

* Demonstrable working experience using SQL (TSQL), PowerBI (DAX and Power Query M) and Excel.
* Working knowledge of Tableau and SSIS.
* Knowledge of data modelling PBI , tabular data models in SSAS distinct advantage.
* Understanding of ETL/ ELT processes. 
* Analytical skills within a large data driven organisation (life insurance a distinct advantage.)
* Working knowledge of data management and datawarehousing, MI/BI architecture solutions both technically and from a business perspective.
* Excellent management and stakeholder engagement skills
* Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
* Minimum 2 years' experience in the BI space 
* Ability to engage with business teams and translate business requirements into technical specifications for sound BI solutions.
* Act as a conduit between IT & business in translating business to technical requirements
