By applying for the IT & Strategy Talent Programme you can become 1 of 23 talents working towards that goal. Each of the 23 positions in the program is unique and has its own specific responsibilities and challenges. This is a two-year programme with a strong focus on your development. You will have an individual development plan aiming at a targeted competence profile after two years and building blocks with learning goals towards that target. As part of the programme, you can look forward to assignments/rotations aimed at giving you a chance to really get into a project and deliver value. 

Your role as a Data Engineer & BI Consultant 

As a Data Engineer & BI Consultant you will be a member of one of our DevOps teams. Our works start with ideation and framing tangible requirements and continues with designing, creating, and operating solutions based on the MS Azure technology stack. In doing so, we as IT partner up with our colleagues from the various engineering departments within Vattenfall on a daily basis. The tasks and projects are varied and so are the data, the use cases and the technology. For instance our solutions have a direct impact on fuel consumption in the district heating grid of Berlin based on live Smart Meter data evaluation, optimize maintenance cycles of turbines and under water cables via predictive maintenance or allow for cross country streaming data analytics on Hydro powerplant sensor data.

Within the team, the Data Engineer & BI Consultant is a front runner who is in continuous dialogue with the experts and solution designers in Vattenfall’s various departments to build, maintain and optimize state of the art analytics solutions. The success of the Data Engineer is integral to the success of Vattenfall in making fossil free living possible within one generation.

Your daily activities:

  • Design, build and maintain data lake solutions to share data within Vattenfall & with external stakeholders
  • Implement traditional database & DWH concepts to structure the data in the cloud to provide self-service reporting and machine learning solutions (e.g. using PowerBI or Azure ML Studio)
  • Build and maintain ETL/ELT tracks as well as APIs to ensure that the data lands where it is needed
  • Work with streaming data analytics together with business stakeholders to gather insights and enable improved decision making
  • Understand requirements and translate them into IT solutions
  • Participate in roadmap discussions and workshops with the business stakeholders to understand and participate in the business journey
  • Work closely together with your fellow team mates in an agile way on a daily basis, i.e., with architects, requirement engineers, data engineers, data scientists and business specialists
  • Provide expert advice both internally in the team and to various other departments in Vattenfall
  • Proactively adapt value adding solutions to the needs of other departments

Qualifications

  • Graduate, or up to two years’ work experience 
  • Strong background in IT (software) engineering 
  • Keen to ‘learn by doing’ 
  • Able to handle a steep learning curve 

As a Talent - Data Engineer & BI Consultant you recognize yourself in the following: 

  • You recently graduated or already have up two years of working experience and you have a university degree, ideally in (energy) engineering or IT or a related field
  • You are drawn to inspiring people by example and can proof that by means of recent extracurricular activities and / or successful projects
  • You have a genuine interest in what is happening on the energy market and through that gained sound understanding in the field of (sustainable) energy engineering
  • You possess a strong technical background with an understanding of how analytics solutions are brought into life by means of preferably but not exclusively Python and SQL
  • You have clear understanding about the concepts of Cloud Computing, Business Intelligence, Analytics, Data Engineering and Data Science
  • Proven understanding of agile ways of working (ideally with a common framework like Scrum, SAFe, Kanban, DevOps, etc.)
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English is a must have. Dutch, German and/or Swedish are a plus

Location 

The Analytics Solutions team has members in the Vattenfall offices in Amsterdam, Berlin, Hamburg and Stockholm. You can choose to be based in either of these locations. We provide solutions to Vattenfall departments primarily in Germany, Sweden and the Netherlands, so travelling between our office locations to meet up with your colleagues and stakeholders for workshops, ideations and events can be part of the job.

It will give you the opportunity to visit different parts of our organization, e.g., in Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland and Denmark. There are planned weeks including personal development and internal leadership development from our Vattenfall Management Institute. The selection period starts in the middle of February, followed by online tests and interviews in March and April. The recruitment process will be finalized around the end of April.
