Job Description

The Locus Robotics Data Science Team (DST) is responsible for providing data management, access, and analysis to interested stakeholders - both within and outside Locus. The DST will provide access to deeper analysis, modeling, and predictive analytics based on large and complex datasets. The Data Architect role will be fundamental to ensuring that the design of the systems and data structuring to support this effort is robust, scalable, and stable.

What the role involves:

  • Design and implement data models, storage, management, and lifecycle in support of team and organization requirements
  • Define standards and guidance for working with the data under the responsibility of the Data Science Team 
  • Support need and effort of Data Engineers and Data Scientists working on the team
  • Ability to communicate between the technical and non-technical - listening to the needs of team and business stakeholders, interpret them, and have difficult discussion when needed
  • Evolve and define data governance - assure and integrate data services meet the needs and obligations of the team and business
  • Understanding of the concepts and principles of data modeling - produce relevant data models across multiple subject areas, and reverse-engineer data models from a live system, using industry-recognised data modeling patterns and standards
  • Develop and set data standards across multiple subject areas - act as the escalation point for breaches of data standards and make recommendations about how the organization should resolve them
  • Design metadata repositories with a range of tools for storing and working with metadata
  • Issue resolution and root cause analysis - ensuring that the most appropriate actions are taken to resolve problems as they occur, and understand root cause to prevent repeated occurrence

Qualifications

Technical skills should include, but not be limited to:

  • Experience and understanding of SQL and NoSQL database platforms and technologies
  • Demonstrable experience with AWS technologies and cloud infrastructure management
  • MSc or PhD level qualification in a computer science, data science, or related discipline
  • Bonus points for programming experience in: Python
  • Ability to adhere to technical standards and follow procedures rigorously
  • Flexible and capable of adapting to new technologies as needed
