This application is for a 6-month student role from July - December 2023. Resume review begins in January 2023.

As a Co-op student in the Translational Sciences group, you will contribute to our mission of discovery and development of new therapeutic targets that are rooted in human genetics and supported by human evidence. The Computational Biology group is dedicated to elucidating disease mechanisms in preclinical and human tissue samples and connecting molecular profiles to clinical outcomes using a variety of omics platforms and integrating data across platforms to derive unique disease insights for target and biomarker discovery.

Position Description

The Computational Biology group is seeking Co-op students currently enrolled in graduate programs with strong background in computational biology and bioinformatics with a keen interest in integrative and machine learning methods to analyze our rich data sets and gain unique insight into disease.

The aims of the project include:

  • Identifying and applying computational frameworks to combine analysis of epigenetic and genetic data collected from Parkinson’s Disease patients. Your project will interrogate pathways dysregulated in integrated data sets and identify patient subgroups.

  • Identifying epigenetic features that distinguish non-manifesting pathogenic mutation carriers as compared to patient mutation carriers to understand modulators of risk and validate signatures in independent data sets.

  • Processing longitudinal RNAseq and methylation blood profiling data to discover expression and epigenetic signatures associated with disease progression in mutation carrier subgroups.

The intern will join an experienced team of computational biologists and have opportunities to closely collaborate with the broader Biogen R&D community.

Qualifications

For this role we require:

  • Postgraduate study in Computational Biology, Biostatistics, Biomedical Engineering, or similar fields

  • Experience with computer programming, UNIX system, statistical analysis

  • Experience with NGS data analytics and data integration
