We are seeking talented problem solvers and innovative thinkers to deliver cutting-edge research in the exploitation of information and intelligence to enhance future UK defence and security capability.

In the role, you will encounter a variety of challenges, sometimes requiring a high-level view of capability and sometimes in the detail of an application of a technology. You will work closely with our teams and our clients:
• defining research tasks to achieve research goals,
• delivering research and developing prototypes, and
• coordinating and overseeing research delivery by subcontractors.

You will be an experienced self-starter, with a technical background in a relevant area, such as knowledge graphs, ontology development, machine learning, natural language processing, data science, intelligence fusion and/or command and control.

You will pride yourself on working closely with our own teams, our clients and our suppliers to deliver the best outcomes. You will demonstrate, or develop, commercial acumen and have an aptitude to provide consultancy services to our wider client-base.

The role can be delivered from any of our various UK office locations working flexibly within virtual teams with a mix of working from home, working in our offices and meetings at client sites. Successful applicants can expect to have some need to support client meetings and projects, as and when these occur, at MoD sites in Wiltshire/Hampshire/Dorset.

Requirements

The successful applicant will meet the following:
• Strong academic qualifications with a degree/PhD in a mathematically orientated subject;
• Have experience in the development of relevant techniques or technology in the Defence sector;
• Accurate written and verbal communication, and able to adapt to a wide range of audiences including customers and internal stakeholders;
• Able to build trusted relationships and to rapidly establish a reputation for enthusiasm, delivery and reliability;
• Confident working autonomously, and taking ownership of delivery; and
• Keen to learn and work flexibly outside of your primary area of expertise.
It is to your advantage if you meet some or all of:
• Competent in managing a portfolio of research activities;
• Experienced in the planning and management of projects;
• Experience of managing subcontracted work; and
• Knowledge of state-of-the-art information management approaches and systems
