ABOUT THE ROLE

The AI/ML organization works on ML-powered consumer products that incorporate computer vision and recommender systems into the fitness domain. We are looking for an engineering leader who is passionate about building data assets and infrastructure to support the growing needs of AI/ML teams. 

YOUR DAILY IMPACT AT PELOTON

Team

  • Manage and grow a team of data engineers and ML infrastructure engineers responsible for delivering on that roadmap. 
  • Establish processes within the team to effectively lead operational excellence and increase developer velocity.
  • Identify and lead the adoption of new technologies, architecture and skills for the team to take on new challenges.
  • Partner closely with Recruiting to identify and hire strong candidates from diverse backgrounds.

Growing People

  • Motivate and drive a continuous performance-based culture within the team. Provide adequate management support for the team in the form of team meetings, 1:1’s and other forums as needed to support the group and individual development objectives of team members.
  • Mentor team members to help with their career growth through setting objectives, regular feedback, and sharing best practices.
  • Lead by example to actively maintain and build a culture of learning, respect, transparency, and trust.

Project & Technical Leadership

  • Evolve the technical roadmap by understanding the current needs and pain points of key  partners in AI/ML organization and drive for its execution.
  • Work closely with Platform teams to understand their current offerings and find ways to either integrate or evolve them to meet the needs of the AI/ML organization. 
  • Handle planning and breaking down large projects; Manage program and project risks appropriately; Identify and mitigate internal and cross-functional dependencies and blockers.
  • Leverage a strong technical foundation and experience to provide appropriate guidance in a team of junior and senior engineers.
  • Drive technical decision making through objectively assessing trade offs based on scope, business priorities, and impact to partners’ deliverables. 

YOU BRING TO PELOTON

  • MS in Computer Science or a related quantitative field with a strong background in software engineering.
  • 2+ years of technical management experience leading teams that support other ML teams.
  • Worked either as a data engineer or infrastructure engineer for at least 3+ years before transitioning to management.
  • Substantial experience with multiple technologies from the following list: MLFlow, Airflow, Kafka, Kubernetes & AWS.
  • Experience in deploying and maintaining a large number of data pipelines (batch & streaming) in production with adequate monitoring and discovery capabilities.
  • Optional experience of building feature stores that support multiple ML teams.
  • Experience in understanding the compute needs of ML teams and building tools that help provision large-scale infrastructure to support model training & serving. 
  • Optional experience in building an internal training platform that accelerates the velocity of experimentation for ML engineers.
  • Experience working with Agile methodology and delivery of quality software as part of an Agile team.
  • Experience hiring talented engineers at different levels.
  • Experience with coaching and mentoring engineers at different stages in their career, including senior and staff level engineers. Able to demonstrate the ability to identify the strength and weaknesses of individuals in order to maximize team effectiveness.
  • Experience setting a strong vision and roadmap for the team; Actively involved in setting team’s long term goals and execution plans.

Base Salary: $199,200.00 to $239,040.00

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for this position based at our New York City headquarters. The actual base salary offered for this position will depend on numerous factors including individual performance, business objectives, and if the location for the job changes. Our base salary is just one component of Peloton’s competitive total rewards strategy that also includes annual equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan as well as other region-specific health and welfare benefits.
