About the job

Our Data Science department at GWI is committed to maintaining the highest quality in our survey data and to helping our customers arrive at the insights they need to understand their audiences. From automated testing and intelligent product features to custom analytical solutions and data observability, we are supporting the business at every level as data is at the very core of what we do. We are actively engaged throughout the entire data life cycle including data cleaning, data processing, data validation, designing and automating data workflows as well as automatically identifying and recommending insights and unexpected findings to our users. 

Our team values learning and keeping abreast of the latest research very highly and as a result we’re applying a wide range of techniques across machine learning, statistical analysis and natural language processing to the services and features we build. We are a diverse team with different backgrounds spread across two locations, Athens and London, and growing rapidly.

What you’ll be doing

Depending on your background and interest, you will help us shape and realise our data science strategy.  Contributing either to building our AI platform - which facilitates the surfacing of relevant and timely consumer insights to our platform users - or developing our data platform - which ingests and augments consumer survey data from around the world. 

You will report to the Machine Learning Team Lead, as well as working closely with Engineering and Product leads on long-term initiatives. 

About you

Technical 

This role requires someone combining a product-oriented mindset, strong technical skills and programming experience, who is confident working with large, complex datasets and has a good understanding of a range of statistical techniques. Familiarity with cloud data wrangling and data analytics services is beneficial. 

The essentials

  • Suitable educational qualifications in mathematical / computational / statistical sciences or engineering. 
  • Professional experience in designing and delivering data science solutions end-to-end, from ideation, design and prototyping through to evaluation, productionisation and continuous, step-by-step  improvement. 
  • Strong product-oriented mindset: Being able to translate business requests into incremental Data Science solutions and evaluate their business value. 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills. Proven experience and interest in working with cross-functional teams (e.g. Engineering, Product Management, User Research) for delivering data solutions responding to business needs, taking into account technical and business / usability constraints. 
  • High level of coding proficiency in a technical language such as Python (preferably) and  R. 
  • A good understanding of the relevant software stacks for either data analytics, statistics or machine learning.
  • Experience with information retrieval (e.g. search, ranking) and recommender systems, as well as statistical techniques used in market research is nice to have. 

Competencies

  • Gain a strong understanding of the business strategy and be able to apply it to your own projects. Be curious to understand how the business works, how the product fits in, and what its goals are. 
  • Be the voice of Data Science in cross-functional teams and work closely with Product leads to recommend and design alternative solutions, challenging existing specifications when appropriate, always being empathetic about how the product makes users feel. Besides using pure ML metrics, dive into business and user metrics to evaluate performance. 
  • Enjoy working as part of a team, enjoy collaborating and spearhead open and honest communication. Have a can do attitude and a willingness to learn and grow continuously through constructive, 2-way feedback. 
  • Working knowledge of agile delivery tools such Trello and Jira, and other collaborative tools is nice to have.
