Softrams’ is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer for a position supporting federal clients in the Baltimore-Washington metro area. Remote work from the continental U.S. may be possible. The selected candidate will support federal government clients working in a project team environment to implement analytical applications that address complex business concerns.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Work with business owners, product managers and other stakeholders to determine and refine objectives for AI, Machine Learning (ML) and analytic processing solutions to address business problems.
- Designing machine learning systems and self-running artificial intelligence (AI) software to automate predictive models.
- Build out data science and statistical models developed in R&D to scale as functioning and productive automated applications that handle large datasets and/or real time data.
- Design and develop prototypes for appropriate machine learning and artificial intelligence solutions, engaging with teams in proof-of-concept efforts.
- Turn unstructured data into useful information through natural language processing methods and other related approaches.
- Work with development teams to ensure that algorithms generate accurate and interpretable user recommendations.
- Run tests, perform evaluative statistical analysis, and interpret test results.
- Optimize existing machine learning libraries and frameworks.
- Deploy automated processes to monitor and report on model performance and take responsibility for corrective actions.
- Provide technical support to other engineers and data scientists in the use of AI and Machine learning methodologies.
- Prepare complete and accurate documentation of machine learning processes.
- Maintain currency with knowledge, skills and developments in AI and machine learning.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer science, Data Science, Statistics, Analytics, or related quantitative and software development field and at least at least three years' experience as a machine learning engineer.
- In-depth knowledge of statistics and algorithms used in machine learning, text analytics, deep learning, and/or predictive modeling their appropriate use.
- Extensive knowledge of ML frameworks, libraries, data structures, data modeling, and software architecture.
- Advanced proficiency with analytical software including Python and/or R, to manipulate and analyze data and to build analytical models.
- Experience with ML Operations tools (e.g., MLFlow, Kubeflow, SageMaker, etc.)
- Experience with data engineering using SQL queries, Spark, and/or python and to extract and transform large volumes of data into a format suitable for analysis.
- Knowledge of software design and experience developing (programming) and deploying analytical applications or processing systems.
- Experience using cloud-based services and resources (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google cloud) and distributed data and computing tools: Snowflake, Data Bricks, Spark, Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Hive, MySQL, etc.
- Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance. This role may require the hired candidate to go through public clearance. A minimum of 3 years of stay in the U.S. within the last 5 years is a must to be eligible to qualify for public trust clearance sponsorship.

- Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on analytical product development in a business context, particularly with government-related data.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain quality control for one’s own work or the work of others.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams and interacting with clients.
- Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and able to meet deadlines with time management and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of working in a team-based agile work environment with certification in the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) or the capacity to obtain certification.
- Excellent communication skills and an effective technical writer with the ability to communicate complex data in a simple, actionable way.
Work LocationSoftrams is a 100% remote at the moment and we expect some of our employees to be onsite (Woodlawn, MD) 2-3 times a week post-covid especially if they are customer facing or if there are important team meetings. Must be able to work on-site in Woodlawn, MD when onsite work resumes. Softrams works in eastern zone and standard work hours are 9 AM to 5 PM with flexibility around the start and end times based on the individual smaller teams. This role qualifies for 100% remote for the right candidate.
