Oportun’s Data Science and Analytics team is growing rapidly and driving Oportun’s AI driven, mobile first strategy leveraging the latest and greatest technology! As the Senior Manager of Marketing Data Science team, you will play critical role for driving Oportun’s AI/ML direct marketing strategy. You will lead a team of data scientists based out of India and responsible for developing Oportun’s AI driven intellectual property used in Oportun’s direct marketing strategy to prospects that often lack a traditional credit score. Leveraging our dedicated AWS direct marketing environment along with thousands of features, team will design automated processes to build propensity models, risk models and profitability models that are leveraged in optimizing marketing spend for millions of prospects across multiple products (personal loans and credit cards) and channels (i.e. direct mail, digital marketing, partners, existing customers and aggregators)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop customer level response models, propensity models, risk models, and profitability models leveraging credit bureau and as well as alternate data for credit cards and personal loan products

• Build a consumer centric marketing engine to optimize marketing spend for millions of prospects across multiple products (personal loans and credit cards) and channels (i.e. direct mail, digital marketing, partners, existing customers and aggregators)

• Develop and automate pre-screen credit policy for prospects across different products and channels

• Lead initiatives to drive business value from start to finish including project planning, communication and stakeholder management

• Lead discussions with compliance, bank partners and model risk management teams to facilitate the model governance activities such as model validations and monitoring.

• Build experimental design-based testing framework for rapid experimentation and learning

• Build end-to-end reusable ML pipelines from data acquisition to model output delivery

• Design and build marketing data infrastructure by partnering with data and production

  engineering teams

• Lead and mentor data scientists that solve business problems leveraging AI/ML

• Communicate and partner with third party data vendors

REQUIREMENTS:

• Master’s degree or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or Economics or other quantitative discipline (Bachelor’s degree with significant relevant experience will be considered)

• 7+ years data science experience in developing and deploying machine learning models, preferably with targeting and risk models

• Hands on experience leveraging machine learning techniques such as Gradient Boosting, Clustering, Logistic Regression or Random Forest to solve real world problems

• 5+ years of hands-on experience with data extraction, cleaning, analysis and building reusable data pipelines; Proficient in Python. SQL, Spark SQL and/or Hive

• 3+ years of experience in leveraging modern machine learning toolset and programming languages such as Python

• 1+ years of experience building and managing high performing data science teams including career development, mentoring and talent management

• Excellent written and oral communication skills

• A relentless problem solver and out of the box thinker with a proven track record of

  driving business results in a timely manner

• Strong stakeholder management and project management skills

• Experience working with AWS EMR, Spark or other cloud-based platforms is a plus

• Comfortable in a high-growth, fast-paced and agile environment
