Job Description

The Global IT group is seeking a Data Engineer to join its team in the Kansas City area.  This person will report to the Data Governance Manager and will have responsibility for improving the quality of data and be instrumental in the migration to a modern data stack.

The Data Engineer’s role is to assist the data team by working closely with the Data Architect finding patterns in the current infrastructure and make recommendation for improvements.  The Data Engineer will identify, design and implement internal process improvements including re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, optimizing data delivery and automating manual processes.

This role will be part of the Global Information Systems team and will have a strong collaboration with the business operations, accounting, sales and marketing teams. This role will be responsible for ensuring our account master data is clean, scalable and trusted.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Data Architect to develop, test and maintain data pipelines and data architecture
  • Collect, manage and transform raw data into formats that can be used by business units
  • Develop and construct data products and services to integrate into systems and business processes
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of data quality standards, data protection standards and adoption requirements across the enterprise
  • Work with the team to aggregate large ERP data sets for use within a Data Warehouse solution
  • Identify and translate key business requirements into solutions

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Develop, design, and optimize complex SQL queries
  • Extensive experience working hands-on with data supporting Business Intelligence (BI) systems in a BI or ETL Developer role
  • Expertise with at least one of the following database technologies and familiarity with the others: relational, columnar and NoSQL (i.e. DB2, MySQL, Oracle, MSSQL, Vertica, MongoDB)
  • Understanding of data modelling (i.e. conceptual, logical and physical model design - with both traditional 3rd normal form as well as dimensional modelling, such as star and snowflake)
  • BA/BS in Mathematics, Statistics, IT, Business Intelligence or other technical degree required 
  • 3-5 years of Database or Data Engineering experience required. Experience in a manufacturing environment a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of data pipelines into cloud environments (Fivetran, Qlik Replicate/Attunity, Informatica or Talend)
  • Experience with Snowflake and dbt
  • Experience with iPaaS tools
  • Experience with scripting technologies (SQL, Python, R, etc.).
  • Experience with a wide variety of business data (Marketing, Finance, Operations, etc.)
  • Experience with Large ERP systems (Oracle JD Edwards Enterprise One, QAD, Info LM, Sage, etc)
  • Additional language skills would be advantageous but not essential (e.g. German, Spanish, Portuguese)
