Role summary

We’re looking for paid Data Science Interns to support the existing data capacity at various institutions in the Government of Rwanda. The role will entail activities related to data pipeline maintenance, data discovery, data cleaning, data analysis, and reporting. In addition, the intern will work closely with the institution’s Chief Digital Officer, business analysts, and data team and collaborate with the Cenfri team on specific projects.


Main responsibilities

  • Liaise with the CDO and support all departments to obtain relevant data for use in strategy development and monitoring processes
  • Assist the data management team in discovering and cataloguing data sets
  • Analyse the data quality of institutional data sets and develop processes to remedy data quality challenges
  • Clean data in preparation for analytical processes
  • Analyse data to determine trends and projections for use in the business planning process
  • Translate data findings into understandable templates and dashboards to inform decision making by the management

Requirements

  • Completed a bachelor’s degree in data science or related field (Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Agent computing, AI/ML, Economics, Physics, environmental sciences, Mathematics/Science/Computer Science with Education, etc.)
  • Proficiency in MS-Office, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Java, C, C#, JavaScript, R or Python (change to a programming or scripting language of their choice)
  • In-depth understanding of SQL
  • Knowledge of Power BI
  • Competent in machine learning principles and techniques.
  • Demonstrable experience of working on data-centred projects is an asset.

Economics

  • Knowledge in analysis and forecasting of microeconomics
  • Understanding of tax systems and debt financing
