Profile Sr Enterprise Data Architect - Director  

Booking.com's main company strategy, the Connected Trip vision is being spearheaded through connected data and we need a Sr Enterprise Data Architect that matches our ambitions. 

As Booking.com continues down our data modernization journey, the Enterprise Data Architect is  responsible for setting the strategy for Booking.com's data architecture, providing technical architecture direction for delivery of the Connected Trip. You will have an impact on the overall technology strategy by capturing the physical enterprise data model, working with the Data Management Office to align to the conceptual and logical models and will bring together all the Business Units and Departments data.

You will report to the Chief Data Officer at Booking.com and work closely with act as a data ambassador in BU discussions; collaborating cross functionally and working closely with our technology departments. You are an SME in enterprise data architecture, architecture policy and data domain taxonomy modeling.  

The role is located in Amsterdam, The Netherlands; global HQ. 

Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for: 

Data Architecture

Capturing the physical enterprise data model, working with the Data Management Office to align to the conceptual and logical models

Setting the strategy for data architecture to support the Business and IT strategies and maintaining the data architecture principles

Creating the data architecture documents and templates for change initiatives and supporting solution architects to complete

Software Systems Design

Evaluate possible architecture solutions by taking into account cost, business requirements, technology requirements and emerging technologies and is the go to person on this topic for the area.

Describe the implications of changing an existing system or adding a new system to a specific area, by having a broad, high-level understanding of the infrastructure and architecture of our systems and is the go to person on this topic for the area.

Help grow the business and/or accelerate software development by applying engineering techniques (e.g. prototyping, spiking and vendor evaluation) and standards and is the go to person on this topic for the area.

Meet business needs by designing solutions that meet current requirements and are adaptable for future enhancements and is the go to person on this topic for the area.

Building software applications

Build software applications by using relevant development languages and applying knowledge of systems, services and tools appropriate for the business area and is the go to person on this topic for the area.

Write readable and reusable code by applying standard patterns and using standard libraries and is the go to person on this topic for the area.

Refactor and simplify code by introducing design patterns when necessary and is the go to person on this topic for the area.

Ensure the quality of the application by following standard testing techniques and methods that adhere to the test strategy and is the go to person on this topic for the area.

Maintain data security, integrity and quality by effectively following company standards and best practices and is the go to person on this topic for the area.

End to End System Ownership

Own a service end to end by actively monitoring application health and performance, setting and monitoring relevant metrics and acting accordingly when violated and is the go to person on this topic for the area.

Reduce business continuity risks and bus factor by applying state-of-the-art practices and tools, and writing the appropriate documentation such as runbooks and OpDocs and is the go to person on this topic for the area.

Reduce risk and obtain customer feedback by using continuous delivery and experimentation frameworks and is the go to person on this topic for the area.

Independently manage an application or service by working through deployment and operations in production and is the go to person on this topic for the area.

Continuous Quality and Process Improvement

Identify opportunities for process, system and structural improvements (i.e performance gains) by examining and evaluating current process flows, methods and standards and guide more junior members of the team in this topic.

Design and implement relevant improvements by defining adapted/new process flows, standards, and practices that enable business performance and guide more junior members of the team in this topic.
