The Role/ The Team
We are currently looking for a Data Science Manager to join a fantastic team of data scientists in the Investigations Team. We’re looking for someone who resonates with our team’s values of kindness, empathy, openness to diverse viewpoints, integrity and honesty, and always being willing to support one another and help each other learn and grow.
We are looking for someone with strong people management skills, who is excited to line manage a team of data scientists who work with client data to discover patterns and trends concerning fraud in our clients' data. You are in your element working with people, and can explain complex problems and solutions in a clear and simple way. An adaptable problem solver, you are organised and able to work autonomously and keep track of a variety of tasks.
We’re looking for someone with a background in data science, who will be able to coach their team in problem solving, asking the right questions, analysing and presenting findings, and in supporting their ongoing professional development. We’re also looking for someone who is excited to work with the Investigations Lead in developing the strategy for the future of the team, and to work together on projects that support the team’s continuous improvement in a sustainable and scalable way.
Responsibilities
- Line manage a team of data scientists - providing coaching and guidance on daily work, supporting with pastoral issues, and supporting ongoing development and growth of the team
- Review analysis and code and provide feedback and suggestions for improvements
- Escalating client/team/project issues to the relevant stakeholders within Ravelin in order to collaboratively problem solve
- Working closely with the Investigations Lead to develop team strategy, including involvement in planning and running quarterly retrospectives
- Owning and proactively working on continuous development projects
- Keeping up to date with both current fraud trends and technologies that the team is working with, in order to best support team with relevant domain knowledge and context
Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of experience of line management, and a desire for management, coaching and strategy to be your primary focus
- Able to lead and manage a diverse range of people with different backgrounds and skill sets, from inexperienced to senior
- Able to handle difficult management situations with tact, empathy and support
- Experience or training as a data analyst or data scientist
- Ability to own and progress projects independently
- Ability to listen to and carefully consider diverse points of view and ideas that are different to their own
- Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills, intuitively curious and able to ask the right questions to get to the root of an issue before deciding on a course of action
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and relationship building skills
- Excellent organisation skills - ability to track and manage own workload, and prioritise and follow through on tasks proactively
- Experience with SQL & Python for data analysis - in order to be able to review the team’s work and provide useful feedback
- Proactive self-starter, able to learn quickly and work independently
- Comfortable in a fast paced, constantly evolving environment
- Desirable: Knowledge of supervised and unsupervised ML techniques, network analysis, DBT
- Desirable: Knowledge of the fraud/payments industry
