As an expanding group, we have opportunities for experienced Operations Manager to join our national team specializing in one of our Analytics & Data Management Team with workstreams and to help support our strategy. 

Your Opportunity

Operations Managers are trusted advisors to Partners in Charge (PICs). They have and apply a deep understanding of the business to assist PICs with decision making and, together with relevant business partners, make recommendations as to the application of policy, and summarize the likely impact of those recommendations. Operations Managers work closely with PICs, Finance, P&I and Resource Management to inform decision making

Accountabilities

Performance

  • Consolidates leadership plans to identify required FTE growth and feed into budget cycle.
  • Develops overarching annual business plan communication document.
  • Facilitates appropriate reviews/checks of achievement against plan at quarterly intervals (or as defined) via partner meetings, includes tracking financial performance.
  • Ensures appropriate progress and implementation of business plan and associated initiatives. This may include project management and/or delivery support for the partners and initiative leaders. This may also involve liaison with other parts of the firm where others are responsible for providing inputs/resources, or where existing knowledge, capability or programs can be leveraged.
  • Provide support for growth initiatives e.g., acquisitions and investments.
  • Coordinate budget setting in collaboration with Finance, PIC and P&I BP.

Clients

  • Tracks financial performance and BD pipeline (forecasts and actual) and feeds into business management discussions.
  • Is a conduit for key market-related initiatives, e.g., sales drives, as point of co-ordination nationally.
  • Considers pipeline health, client portfolio as critical inputs into business performance.
  • Acts as link point into Marketing for production of key collateral.
  • Manages portfolio by monitoring long term trends / developments in Service Line or Sector services and capability needs.

People

  • Meets Firm deadlines during the performance management cycles for self and people, inclusive of goal setting, providing input into engagement reviews, quarterly and year-end check-ins for more junior team members, and by completing PDM responsibilities (if applicable) to a standard expected under Open.
  • Liaises with P&I to understand timelines for key P&I activities, to ensure critical business decisions can be made in a timely fashion.
  • Provides input on people initiatives, role modelling the KPMG values in all aspects of work.
  • In conjunction with nominating partners and P&I BP, co-ordinates critical documentation for promotion milestones (particularly business cases for Tasman and Director promotions).
  • Liaises with and supports the P&I business partners with the development of appropriate goals per staff level in line with divisional and Service Line performance targets.
  • Monitor compliance of / action against GPS Action Plan.

Knowledge

  • Drives collation of knowledge collateral.
  • Leverages the knowledge management function, ensure that the team is aware of and using appropriate knowledge platforms such as Source, for specific collateral.
  • Regularly reviews the use of fileserver and team site space to ensure compliance with firm’s knowledge and risk practices.
  • Acts as liaison point for training, recruitment, knowledge sharing (via intranet).
  • Builds capability around internal processes e.g., development and delivery of engagement management training.
  • Supports new service activation process.
  • Role models a knowledge-sharing mindset and builds a constructive culture by proactively sharing what they know with other KPMG people, teams and functions.
  • Leads by example on directives and guidelines for knowledge sharing and the use of technology to strengthen practice management.
  • Shares and applies the knowledge of KPMG’s services and processes to achieve a positive outcome for KPMG.
  • Completes all mandatory and regulatory training by the due date required of an operations manager within the relevant service line.

Other responsibilities

  • Monitor uptake and usage of mandated firm risk processes, particularly around document preparation and retention.
  • Assist in process of accreditation for new engagement leaders.
  • Understand linkage between Sentinel and Australian services and ensure appropriate mapping is in place and is understood by the team.
  • Draft ‘day-to-day’ communications for SL PIC to team, produce regular leadership communications, and specific announcements and messages, meeting packs as required eg. new partner appointments, promotions etc.  Provide input as required into content for local team meetings.
  • Provide Service Line input into firm marketing and communications functions.
  • Proactively identifies news material for inclusion in firm-wide or division wide messaging.
  • As requested by PIC, apply a deep understanding of the business to proposed policy, correspondence, or procedures in order to consider implementation requirements, or communication of changes in policy /procedures.
  • As requested by PIC, review reports prepared by P&I, Finance and Resource Management, prepare analysis for Partners as needed.  Recommend action to be taken to address any concerns, or to implement improvements to results, coordinate any actions for the business.
  • As requested by PIC, be the first point of contact for enquiries to the PIC for approvals, in some instances be the PICs delegate for approval.
  • Co-ordinate, develop and / or implement other activities identified by PIC.

  • Builds relationships with Firm, divisional and cross-divisional leaders including PICs and Service Line leadership team.
  • Builds relationships with Business Services and other firm teams, eg. P&I, ITS, Risk Management, Markets, other Operations Managers, Sector Leaders and EAs.
