Research Engineer Camera System

OverviewNIO is a global company with R&D offices in North America, Germany, the UK, and China. NIO is the leader in the intelligent Electronic Vehicle (EV) industry in China, which is the largest, fastest-growing EV market in the world, and is also rapidly expanding its business worldwide.  NIO is seeking research engineers for our Digital Cockpit team located in San Jose, California.You will research new technologies, and technologies used in other industries which can be applied to create the next immersive user experience. 

Responsibilities

• Research, design, implement, and validate cameras complete system, from sensors, ISP, drivers for cameras, deserializers, displays and serializers.
• Calculate performance of vision systems, including end-to-end from optics to graphics.
• Develop middleware and framework so that multiple cameras / displays can be used many applications.
• Work in a dynamic cross functional global team to deliver digital cockpit platform for next generation autonomous and semi-autonomous cars.
• Fusion of camera sensor data with other type of sensors (such as UWB, IR etc)

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or master’s degree with publication and research projects, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Communication, and Electronics.
• 1-year experience in a relevant domain in industry or academia.
• Excellent knowledge of image processing (ISP), cameras and vision pipeline design patterns
• Excellent knowledge how to evaluate performances of an end to end camera system
• Experience with Embedded systems including CPU, DSP, GPU sub systems
• Experience with C, C++, python

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in profiling and analyzing key metrics (MIPS/Memory/bandwidth) of real-time embedded system.
• Knowledge and interest in safety concepts is a plus
• Excellent communication skills. Capable of explaining complex technical topics in non-technical audiences.
• Knowledge of full stack embedded development starting from HSI to applications.
• Knowledge of CI/CD systems, simulation
• Knowledge of containerization and dockerization for the purpose simulation and development.
