Job Description

We are looking for a VP, Data Engineering to join our technology organization and will be reporting to the CTO. This hands-on position will develop and implement strategies for modernizing and remediating legacy platforms by leveraging existing tools as well as implementing new data platform capabilities. You will coach and grow your team to serve the entire global organization. This will include taking ownership of data governance, data management, data quality, and ensuring high quality documentation. You will work closely with data science and actuarial to develop and deploy new ML enabled capabilities within the organization. You will also work with our software development organization to ensure seamless data quality across platforms. This is a collaborative position that will interact directly with functional and business leaders to help develop requirements and deploy new capabilities

  • Lead and mentor a high performing data engineering team
  • Knowledge of data engineering best practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, documentation, and operations
  • Expert in SQL
  • Expert in ETL development, optimization, and maintenance
  • Proficient in Python
  • Set data standards and ensure that all Fortegra systems contain complete, accurate, and detailed data. Be an expert in the data structure of both raw and processed datasets within our ecosystem.
  • Own the data engineering roadmap and work with stakeholders to set priorities
  • Experience in complex data environments made up of legacy and modern technologies
  • Use appropriate tools to document all code, processes, and procedures
  • Along with your team create and document unit test scripts
  • Proactively look for tools and methods to improve the operation of the data platform components (i.e. Micro-services/Kubernetes, Spark, etc.)
  • Lead the team in the processing of test scripts while ensure proper change control procedures are followed

Qualifications

·        B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent required

·        Must have a minimum of 8+ years of technical experience in data engineering, with at             least 4 years of management experience

·        Expert in SQL

·        Deep knowledge of Python

·        Familiarity with .NET and C#

·        Capable of designing and consuming REST APIs

·        Experience with Jenkins Server automation/configuration management solutions

·        Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines using Git and Jenkins

·        Familiarity with agile development processes.

·        Working knowledge of GIT

·        Working knowledge of JIRA

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
